YbV$_3$Sb$_4$ and EuV$_3$Sb$_4$, vanadium-based kagome metals with Yb$^{2+}$ and Eu$^{2+}$ zig-zag chains
Abstract: Here we present YbV$_3$Sb$_4$ and EuV$_3$Sb$_4$, two new compounds exhibiting slightly distorted vanadium-based kagome nets interleaved with zig-zag chains of divalent Yb$^{2+}$ and Eu$^{2+}$ ions. Single crystal growth methods are reported alongside magnetic, electronic, and thermodynamic measurements. YbV$_3$Sb$_4$ is a nonmagnetic metal with no collective phase transitions observed between 60mK… ▽ More

Origin of ultra-low thermal conductivity in unconventional clathrates: Strong scattering from extremely low-frequency rattling modes
Abstract: Recent discoveries of materials with ultra-low thermal conductivity open a pathway to significant developments in the field of thermoelectricity. Here, we conduct a comparative study of three chemically similar antimonides to establish the root causes of their extraordinarily low thermal conductivity ($0.4-0.6$ Wm$^{-1}$K$^{-1}$ at 525 K). The materials of interest are: the unconventional type-XI… ▽ More

Perverse sheaves on symmetric products of the plane
Abstract: For any field $k$, we give an algebraic description of the category $\mathrm{Perv}_\mathscr{S}(S^n (\mathbb{C}^2),k)$ of perverse sheaves on the $n$-fold symmetric product of the plane $S^n(\mathbb{C}^2)$ constructible with respect to its natural stratification and with coefficients in $k$. Singular Hodge theory for combinatorial geometries
Abstract: We introduce the intersection cohomology module of a matroid and prove that it satisfies Poincaré duality, the hard Lefschetz theorem, and the Hodge-Riemann relations. As applications, we obtain proofs of Dowling and Wilson's Top-Heavy conjecture and the nonnegativity of the coefficients of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for all matroids.

A semi-small decomposition of the Chow ring of a matroid
Abstract: We give a semi-small orthogonal decomposition of the Chow ring of a matroid M. The decomposition is used to give simple proofs of Poincaré duality, the hard Lefschetz theorem, and the Hodge-Riemann relations for the Chow ring, recovering the main result of [AHK18]. We also show that a similar semi-small orthogonal decomposition holds for the augmented Chow ring of M.

Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials of matroids under deletion

We give a number of applications of our formula to Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomials of graphic matroids, including a simple formula for the… ▽ More

Ringel duality for perverse sheaves on hypertoric varieties
Abstract: Motivated by the polynomial representation theory of the general linear group and the theory of symplectic singularities, we study a category of perverse sheaves with coefficients in a field $k$ on any affine unimodular hypertoric variety. Our main result is that this is a highest weight category whose Ringel dual is the corresponding category for the Gale dual hypertoric variety. On the way to pr… ▽ More

Matroidal Schur Algebras
Abstract: Fix a principal ideal domain $k$. In this article we associate to a (weighted) matroid $M$ a quasi-hereditary algebra $R(M)$ defined over $k$ such that matroid duality corresponds to Ringel duality of quasi-hereditary algebras. The representation theory of these algebras is related to work of Schechtman-Varchenko and Brylawski-Varchenko. In characteristic zero, our algebras are also closely relate… ▽ More

Quantizations of conical symplectic resolutions I: local and global structure
Abstract: We re-examine some topics in representation theory of Lie algebras and Springer theory in a more general context, viewing the universal enveloping algebra as an example of the section ring of a quantization of a conical symplectic resolution. While some modification from this classical context is necessary, many familiar features survive. These include a version of the Beilinson-Bernstein localiza… ▽ More

Abstract: We show that the center of a flat graded deformation of a standard Koszul algebra behaves in many ways like the torus-equivariant cohomology ring of an algebraic variety with finite fixed-point set. Intersection Homology of Toric Varieties and a Conjecture of Kalai
Abstract: We prove that the intersection homology Poincare' polynomial P(X) of an affine toric variety X is bounded below by the product P(Y)P(X/Y), where Y is the closure of any orbit in X and X/Y is a slice transverse to the orbit. This proves a combinatorial conjecture of Kalai for rational polytopes.
