Crabmeat was a crab-based classic badnik created by Dr. Ivo Robotnik. He was Robotnik's first loyal lackey, serving as an assistant with numerous roles ranging from morale officer to guard and enforcer, and even outranked Snively, until he was rendered obsolete by more advanced badniks.

History[]

Dr. Ivo Robotnik's Tyranny[]

One day in Dr. Ivo Robotnik's office with the doctor, Crabmeat would detect the Knothole Freedom Fighters on the Spy Screen, prompting Robotnik to head out and attack them with Buzzbomber. Late, a squadron of Crabmeat units lured Sonic to the edge of a cliff in the mountains where Robotnik ambushed Sonic with his Egg Wrecker. Some time afterwards, Chuck would work on assembling thousands of Crabmeats in Robotropolis' Crab Compound, during which he work was briefly interrupted by Sonic. (OSM: #0, #3)

One day, while trying to cheer up Robonik when he was in a foul mood, Crabmeat literally got entangled in the Krudzu presented to Robotnik. Before he knew it, he was then thrown into the Robot Disposal, along with the SWATbot that presented the Krudzu. Soon after, some Crabmeats would attend Robotnik's presentation in Renobotnik where the doctor unveiled his latest Classic Badnik after another Crabmeat had introduced the doctor to the crowd. Later, while Robotnik was plotting Sonic's demise, Crabmeat hoped to fight the hedgehog. While Robotnik denied him that because of his past failures, Crabmeat was allowed another role, which was being a test dummy for Coconuts, who blew him to pieces. (StH: #1, #2)

Later, Crabmeat discussed the arrangement of the Bug Bomb with Robotnik that would clear out the flying ants in the panty. Eventually, he met Robotnik again, who asked for the Bug Bomb. Crabmeat, however, noticed something was off about Robotnik. Realizing that it was actually Rotor in disguise, Crabmeat lured him in into an ambush the real Robotnik sought to use to his advantage. However, Crabmeat ended up subdued. Afterwards, with the Bug Bomb stolen by the Freedom Fighters, Crabmeat and Robotnik were left to deal with the flying ants in the pantry without aid. Soon after, Crabmeat and Robotnik came to see the latest mobini the Bot Brigade had captured. When the animal turned out to be a tiny salamander however, Robotnik had Crabmeat take the Bot Brigade to the Slag Shop as punishment. Following that, after Universalamander's threat had passed, Crabmeat joined Robotnik on a company picnic to celebrate the doctor's return before resuming him terrorizing activities. (StH: #3, #4)

Afterwards, Crabmeat got caught reading comic books, although Robotnik used Crabmeat's comic books as an inspiration for some robot superheroes known as the Comic Book Bots whom of which were destroyed, with Robotnik having to use Crabmeat as a horse to gallop away. (StH: #8)

Later jobs included asking why Robotnik is playing with Freedom Fighters dolls and getting gift wrapped by Bunnie Rabbot and Princess Sally, searching for a mole in the organization and bringing back a real mole, searching for King Gong on Skoal Island and nearly getting eaten alive, and rounding up some time-stopped soldiers while getting time-stopped himself. (StH: #15, #16, #17, SSS: #5)

Crabmeat's abuse kept increasing as Robotnik's attempts to defeat Sonic repeatedly failed. He was used as a test dummy in a crushing trap during Sonic's race with Metal Sonic. (StH: #25)

Later, Crabmeat accidently set a gauge for a 6-pronged energy inducer, when Robotnik was using a 3-pronged inducer to draw energy from a Chaos Emerald. The resulting explosion split the emerald into two equal shards, one creating a new zone, the other nearly blowing up the Floating Island. (STT)

His last scene with Robotnik was when Crabmeat was enlarged and used to send Nack the Weasel flying out of Robotropolis, only to be destroyed when Robotnik tested Mecha Sonic's new abilities. Crabmeat and the other badniks were eventually sent to the Robo-Hobo Jungle, having been decommissioned from service for their lack of success. He was seen battling Sonic who destroyed him. (StH: #39, #40)

Ruler of Surviving Badniks[]

Crabmeat made no real appearances until much later, when Sonic learned of the Island of Misfit Badniks and decided to investigate. Crabmeat was among the many badniks who fought Sonic, and witnessed his fight with Pseudo Sonic. He was the first to notice that the two were evenly matched and suggested a "Bighorn Challenge" to settle the fight. The island sunk as a result, and the badniks faked their deaths to avoid suspicion. Their plan for revenge involving enlarging Pseudo Sonic didn't succeed, as Crabmeat was zapped by P.B. Jellyfish, while the other badniks were beaten by the Forty Fathom Freedom Fighters. All were eventually crushed into a cube when Big Fluke landed on top of the island and Pseudo Sonic. (StH: #170, #185)

Appearance[]

A crab-based Badnik, Crabmeat has a red body, four white legs, a pair of pinchers, and two eye stalks with black pupils.

Personality[]

As a classic badnik, Crabmeat possesses a limited A.I. While intelligent and capable of speech, he was noted to be small on both size and brains. Regardless, he worked in a pinch. Likewise, he was loyal to Dr. Ivo Robotnik, usually following his orders without question and would genuinely care about his well-being. He knew Robotnik's despicable habits quite well too, but would refer to him by less-impressionable titles, such as "circular one". He also appears somewhat fastidious. (OSM: #0, StH: #1, #3, SA: #2, CSE)

Background information[]

  • Crabmeat is based on the Badnik (known as Gani-gani in Japan) who appeared in the original Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis console.
