Saruman the White (or Saruman the Wise) is the secondary antagonist of JRR Tolkien's Middle Earth Legendarium. He prominently serves as the secondary antagonist of the epic fantasy novel The Lord of the Rings and Peter Jackson's film trilogy adaptations. He is also a major antagonist in The Hobbit trilogy.
He serves as the main antagonist of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and as a minor yet pivotal antagonist in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
He also serves as a major protagonist in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, an unseen protagonist in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and a supporting protagonist in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
He was portrayed by the late Christopher Lee, who also portrayed Count Dooku in the Star Wars prequel films, Count Dracula in Hammer Studios' Dracula film series, and Francisco Scaramanga in The Man With the Golden Gun.
