The image page on Wikipedia claims that this one has "no restrictions", but it is an image from the City of Toronto Archives, the copyright belongs to the city, and permission is required for republication. You can confirm its actual copyright status as follows:

• Go to http://www.toronto.ca/archives/. You must have Javascript enabled.
• Click on Search database.
• Click on Advanced search. (Start here if you trust the page to be what it says it is.)
• Enter Bloor-Danforth Subway from the air in the "Number or Title" field and click on the Search button.
• Click on the title Bloor-Danforth Subway from the air to produce the desired page — unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to quote a permanent URL for the page, as it is for the photo, or I'd just have given it.
• The photo in question is the second one, as you can verify by clicking on the thumbnail. Below the thumbnail array you will find the "access conditions" (which perhaps confused the person who uploaded it — I'm certainly willing to assume good faith) and the "copyright conditions".
• Click on "more" after the copyright conditions, and section NG-CC contains the statement that permission is required.

(At least they didn't have a "Beware of the Leopard" sign.)

Anyway, the thing is that if this person uploaded one image from this source to Wikipedia, there may well be others for which the same copyright conditions apply. The stated copyright conditions would almost certainly apply to anything in the Toronto Archives that is part of the same fonds and series. Perhaps someone inside Wikipedia has an easy way of searching for images whose names begin with "Fo1567_ser648_s0648", or maybe it's possible to see what else this user has uploaded.

• Image:WalterBryanEmery.jpg (history · last edit). The source is given as [7], which does contain this image; but so do several other pages on the Internet. I doubt that calgarycoin.com is the copyright holder of this image. Carcharoth left a message on my talk page which said that the image might come from the Pelican edition of Archaic Egypt, published by Penguin Books, but there hasn't been confirmation of this yet. We need accurate information about the copyright holder in order to satisfy item 10(a) of the non-free content policy. —Bkell (talk) 21:56, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I found the Pelican edition of Archaic Egypt by Walter B. Emery in my library (Copyright © Walter B. Emery, 1961). It does not contain this photo. Inside the front cover is a photo of Mr. Emery, but it shows him much younger and holding a pipe. —Bkell (talk) 00:03, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
