Glenn Diesen (born 1979) is a Norwegian writer who is known for his support for Vladimir Putin's regime. He was formerly based in Russia and affiliated with the Moscow-based Higher School of Economics, but now works at the University of South-Eastern Norway. He is a regular commentator on Russia Today (RT), and has been widely described as a Russian propagandist by Norwegian media, Russia experts and other academics.[1][2][3][4][5] He also writes for Steigan,[6] a self-described "anti-globalist" website that is known for publishing conspiracy theories and pro-Russian views.[7] In 2020, Diesen wrote an op-ed in Aftenposten with Arne Treholt, who was convicted of treason for spying for the Soviet Union during the Cold War, that claimed that Russia has "legitimate interests and security needs" and claimed that Russia was unfairly demonized for its invasion of Ukraine.[8] The paper's foreign affairs editor Kjell Dragnes wrote that Diesen and Treholt promoted Russian propaganda.[9]
