Martin Rubeo (b.1979 Pittsburgh, PA) is the founder [1] of alternative rock band, Gramsci Melodic.
Music
Rubeo is the lead singer and guiatrist for Gramsci Melodic. He originally focused on Avant Garde composition while attending university. He was inactive in regards to music composition and performance for several years following graduation. Rubeo returned to music and played rhythm guitar in a Pittsburgh punk rock band, buRgandy juRk, from 2005 to 2006.[2] Rubeo created Gramsci Melodic from solo recordings he completed using that name. He formed the current line-up of the band in 2006, at which point he left buRgandy juRk. Rubeo is the primary composer and lyricist for Gramsci Melodic.[2][3]
Education Background
Rubeo is an alumnus of Bucknell University (class of 2001) where he was a student of post-minimalist composer, William Duckworth.[4] He also earned a Bachelors Degree in Poilitical Science from Bucknell University.[5]
Rubeo is also a certified secondary education social studies teacher. He received his certification while attending graduate school at The University of Pittsburgh and was the recipient of the Ernest Dorow Award for Excellence in Teaching.[6]
Miscellaneous
- He is the brother of ice hockey player, Brandon Rubeo, who played for the Markham Waxers of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League (OHA) (Junior "A") and currently plays for the Penn State Icers of the American Collegiate Hockey Association.[7][8]
