FAW Jiefang Group Co., Ltd. ("FAW Jiefang") is a holding subsidiary of China FAW Co., Ltd. and was listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange on May 20, 2020 (Stock Code 000800). Headquartered in Changchun, Jilin Province, Jiefang employs nearly 24,000 people.

FAW Jiefang Automobile Co., Ltd. (abbreviated FAW Jiefang), established on January 18, 2003, is a wholly owned subsidiary of FAW Jiefang Group Co., Ltd. It is a manufacturing company of light, medium and heavy trucks.

In 2019, FAW Jiefang produced 369,700 vehicles and sold 336,000 vehicles, according to the company's website.[1]

According to FAW Jiefang’s official website, FAW Jiefang stated that the Company has been the industry’s best seller of heavy trucks for four consecutive years (2016-2019), best seller of medium and heavy trucks in the industry for three consecutive years (2017-2019), world’s top single brand sales for two consecutive years (2018-2019), industry’s best seller of tractors for 14 consecutive years (2006-2019), while its sales of light vehicles have achieved high growth rates for four consecutive years (2016-2019).[2]

FAW Jiefang Automobile Co., Ltd. consists of 18 departments, including Strategic Management Department, F Division, Commercial Vehicle Overseas Marketing Department, Product Management Department, Technological Development Department, Manufacturing Logistics Department, Quality Assurance Department, Acquisitions Department, Office, Division of Party’s Affairs, Human Resources, Finance Management Department, Capital Operations Department, Audit Department, Discipline Inspection Department, Digitalization Department, Confidential Office, System and Transformation Management Department.

2002.7.15 - Jiefang’s 4th generation product, the high-end heavy truck J4 (enhanced big 4), rolled off the production line

2003.1.18 - FAW Jiefang Automobile Co., Ltd. was established, while a new truck manufacturing base was laid foundation in the same year

2004.7.15 - Jiefang’s 5th generation product, the high-end heavy truck Aowei, rolled off the line

Models

FAW Jiefang’s production includes heavy, medium and light trucks as well as passenger cars, with seven major product lines including tractor, cargo truck, dump truck, and 10 vehicle platforms including J7, J6P, and JH6. According to a news article published in 2017, Jiefang trucks are a major source of the company’s revenue.[4]

Production structure

Five production bases are located in Changchun, Qingdao, Chengdu, Liuzhou and Foshan.

Three parts manufacturing bases are located in Changchun, Wuxi and Dalian.

Three new business bases are located in Suzhou, Nanjing and Tianjin.

According to FAW Jiefang’s official website, the company has an independent R&D infrastructure in China. Its R&D infrastructure is built with five core elements:technical innovation, performance development, design and creation, test trial production, test verification; as well as five technology platforms:low-carbonization, electrification, Intelligentization, information technology and high-quality technology. FAW Jiefang has launched strategic cooperation and joint ventures with domestic and foreign partners.[5]

Sales network

In China, FAW Jiefang has 874 dealers and 1,190 service stations are located in 224 prefecture-level cities, providing 24-hour services. Outside China, FAW Jiefang has 11 assembly plants in 8 countries (Pakistan, South Africa, Mexico, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Nigeria, Philippines, and Vietnam ) and 3 subsidiaries (the Middle East, South Africa, and Eastern Europe). Products are exported to 80 countries and regions.[6]

Social responsibility

FAW Jiefang held an “On the Road Charity” conference and a signing ceremony targeting poverty alleviation on July 13, 2018 to launch its welfare brand "Jiefang, Leading a Better Life with Love". The event marked the official incorporation of the charity into the company’s brand development strategy.[7]
