‘AEW: Dark’ Review (Dec 13th 2022)
Another week, another episode of AEW: Dark which, like this week’s Elevation, features only five matches on the card (thankfully I do love a shorter show)… On with the review!
Match #1: Tay Melo def. Miranda Vionette
My Thoughts: Meh. Looks like Tay was given a tune-up match for her upcoming bout against Ruby Soho – in which I hope she’s ground to a pulp. Judging by this squash match that probably won’t be the case. I do hope to god that match is a lot better than this one though!
My Score: 1 out of 5
Match #2: The Factory (QT Marshall, Lee Johnson & Cole Karter) def. Joe Keys, Chris Steeler & LSG
My Thoughts: I’ve gotta be honest, The Factory’s matches have been a lot more interesting since the addition of Lee Johnson & Cole Karter to their ranks; and this one is no different. WHo’d have thought I’d be giving a mid-card Factory match more than 2 stars? Ever? Not me!
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #3: Zack Clayton def. Steve Pena
My Thoughts: This was OK. Clayton doesn’t excite me but he is showing signs of improvement. Usually Clayton squashes enhancement talent but here Steve Pena gave him some decent offence and this felt a lot more competitive that Clayton’s other work.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #4: Kip Sabian def. Tony Deppen
My Thoughts: Tony Deppen goes from sitting in the crowd during last week’s AEW/ROH matches to taking on Kip Sabian. But I thought Sabian was injured and couldn’t wrestle? That was his excuse for not taking on Orange Cassidy on Rampage last Friday. I guess it must not have been too much of an injury then? Deppen looked great here, really taking it to Sabian and best of all, you didn’t know how was going to get the win – Sabian has been on such a weird journey of late that you don’t know whether he’s booked to win or lose!
My Score: 3.5 out of 5
Match #5: Eddie Kingston & Ortiz def. The Trustbusters (Slim J & Jeeves Kay)
My Thoughts: You know what..? This was booked as an actual match but – for me – I do wish this was a squash match, Yes, a squash match. Guys like Edie and Ortiz should be burying such a terrible faction as The Trustbusters who I hope, are ROH bound rather than sticking around in AEW.
