Crazy4Cult

Your favourite cult movies, as you’ve never seen them before! The annual Crazy 4 Cult art show in Los Angeles has quickly become a phenomenon, with thousands of visitors, a million hits on its website, and high profile buyers including Joss Whedon, Guillermo del Toro, JJ Abrams, Kevin Smith and Edgar Wright. Why? Because the cream of the pop culture-influenced art scene – including Shepard Fairey, who created the now legendary Obama ‘Hope’ poster – come together to celebrate cult movies with art that is surprising, beautiful, and very, very cool.

Crazy 4 Cult: Cult Movie Art is like a dream come true for movie fans. Gallery 1988′s art shows have become legendary amongst film fans and now, thanks to Titan Books, those of us not fortunate to live in L.A finally get the chance to study this amazing collection of art in one handy tome. Plus it’s a lot cheaper to buy this book, which presents the best of the first 4 years of the show, with art inspired by such movies as The Big Lebowski, Edward Scissorhands, Blade Runner, Donnie Darko, Clockwork Orange, Pulp Fiction, than the actual art…

The art comes from such well-respected modern artists such as Mike Mitchell, Scott Listfield, Dave Perillo, Eric Tan, Tom Whalen and Kirk Demaris; and the pieces range from takes on classic movies such as A Clockwork Orange and Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, to cult classics such as Evil Dead and They Live; and of all the art in Crazy 4 Cult: Cult Movie Art it’s definitely the They Live posters that have to be my favourite.

With an introduction by Kevin Smith, Crazy 4 Cult: Cult Movie Art is a whopping 176 pages of modern masterpieces – I just wish I had the bankroll to get myself some actual Gallery 1988 art. But for now this book, which is released by Titan Books on June 24th, will have to do.
