Solum was an inhabited planet in the Delta Quadrant, and the homeworld of the Vau N'Akat. It was surrounded by a ring system. (PRO: "A Moral Star, Part 2", "Preludes")

History[]

In the late 24th century, Solum was habitable and prospering, the Vau N'Akat believing they were the only sentient species in existence. It was ruled by a High Council in 2384. (PRO: "Into the Breach, Part II").

Original timeline[]

At some point after 2384, the United Federation of Planets made first contact with the Vau N'Akat when a Prometheus-class starship arrived at Solum. Fifty years later, the planet had descended into a civil war over whether to pursue relations with aliens, which resulted in the fall of their civilization and the near-extinction of the species. The Federation chose to not intervene in the conflict. (PRO: "A Moral Star, Part 2", "Preludes")

Solum city destroyed

Solum devastated by civil war

When a new Starfleet ship, the USS Protostar, ended up on Solum after passing through a temporal anomaly, the Vau N'Akat of The Order saw it as a chance to reset their world's history by destroying the Federation before First Contact. However, their plan was thwarted by Captain Chakotay who remotely sent his weaponized ship back into the past. With only a small chance of success, the Order sent one hundred Vau N'Akat, each with a Drednok, after the Protostar before the collapse of the anomaly. (PRO: "A Moral Star, Part 2", "Preludes")

Altered timeline[]

In the prime timeline, the intervention of Dal R'El, Jankom Pog, Zero, and Maj'el saw the Protostar launching from Solum with Chakotay and Adreek-Hu on board, resulting in it never reaching Tars Lamora, altering history, while at the same time, Asencia moved to take over the Solum of 2384 to destroy the Federation by force. (PRO: "Who Saves the Saviors")

After solidifying her hold on the planet, Asencia began attempting to use temporal technology stolen from the mind of Wesley Crusher to destroy the Federation and ensure her planet's survival, turning into a tyrant in the process. Wesley was later rescued by Dal, Jankom, Zero, Rok-Tahk, Gwyndala, Murf, and Maj'el. (PRO: "Ascension, Part I", "Ascension, Part II", "Brink", "Touch of Grey")

Asencia subsequently attempted to launch her fleet, but was stopped by the crews of the Protostar and the USS Voyager-A. With the help of the Vau N'Akat, Gwyn defeated Asencia who was imprisoned by her people for her crimes. Although the Loom attacked Solum, they retreated after the Protostar was sent back in time, fixing the timeline. Afterwards, the Federation officially made peaceful first contact with Solum which headed into a new peaceful era, the civil war that had destroyed the planet averted. (PRO: "Ouroboros, Part I", "Ouroboros, Part II")

Wesley suggested that Ilthuran would end up leading his people into a better future after Asencia's defeat, although it was unclear if this was altered by Ilthuran's rescue from captivity which didn't happen in the future Wesley foresaw which had Ilthuran become the new leader of Solum following his defeat of Asencia. However, Ilthuran's leading presence at first contact with the Federation would suggest that he did indeed become the leader of his people or at least one of their leaders. (PRO: "Brink", "Ouroboros, Part II")
