The Art of Racing in the Rain (2019)
I gave this a 10 to counter all those "Top Critics" who put ithe movie down
I had first mistakenly gone to the Rotten Tomatoes site to read the reviews for this film. How can those critics so blatantly bomb it just because it's a movie with heart and makes you want to cry? Well, maybe they aren't human anymore. And what the heck is wrong with crying? We have action-packed movies to put you on the edge of your seat, we have horror movies to scare the sh** out of you... Can't we have tear-jerkers without everyone getting up in arms. I watched this movie on the plane so the sound and the screen weren't great, yet I was fully entertained during lengthy turbulence. I had a smile on my face at the end of the movie and that to me is a good movie. Bah humbug to all of you who have hardened your hearts.
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994)
If you need to laugh, this is the movie for you!
I love this movie..so I must be part of that cult following it has gained (since the critics panned it in 1994). This movie is best watched with children in the room (if you don't have kids, go invite your neighbors!). Sure, there's a tad bit of violence (car windows being busted up with a bat) but the kids' laughter in the room is so refreshing. I am not a fan of fart and barf humor (not a fan of Dumb and Dumber) but this movie is SMART! And the factor of having cute animals in the film just gives it so much more charm (the monkey scene is adorable). Have you ever watched children at play as they make up stories and act out situations and characters?? That's Jim Carrey in this film. The imagination run wild, unfettered, in full bloom! Amazing. Have yet to see anything equal to it since...Enjoy!
Curly Sue (1991)
One of the few movies I can watch again and again!
I'm going to give it a 10 just because the IMDb rating for this film is so surprisingly low. It deserves a higher rating. Whenever I'm feeling in a funk, I put this on and all my cares and worries just disappear! I've read the reviews and still don't understand why people don't like it...because a yuppie lawyer wouldn't fall in love with a bum, you say?! I am a career woman and still I was with a dumpster diver for 5 years. Love is blind, people. Plus, it's just a story and a good cute feel-good story. Curly Sue is adorable. How can you NOT fall in love with her?!! So, rent it, buy it and put it on when you're feeling blue. We could use more movies like this one for good old-fashion escape. Highly recommended.
Somewhere I'll Find You (1942)
I liked it!
What a pleasant way to spend two hours when one can't sleep. I loved Lana Turner's face, a little baby fat and that water and soap look. Another thing I really liked was the dialog, even the jokes held up well, despite their 70 year span since having been written. I was surprised to come to this site and see how many of the comments were negative. I like to think myself intelligent, beyond the attraction of the quasi harlequin romance of the story, so I'm going to sum up my over exaggerated enjoyment of this film with the fact that I have yet to see either Honky Tonk or Homecoming. If I liked this one, I am sure I'll love the other two. :-)
