Mark your calendars: the “Survivor” auction is back!
At the end of the October 30 installment of “Survivor 47,” viewers were treated to a sneak peek of next week’s November 6 episode, in which it was revealed that the auction returns. “I see that word ‘auction’ and my heart explodes,” declares Caroline Vidmar in the preview trailer. This marks the 18th time that the auction will appear on CBS’s reality TV show. However, it’s only the second time in the “New Era,” following a well-received stint in the 45th season that introduced several new twists.
To recap, the “Survivor 45” auction started out with the contestants having to find bamboo tubes around camp containing various dollar amounts. They would then get to use that money at the auction on food and comfort items (plus some nasty fish eyes). Jeff Probst informed the competitors up front that there wouldn’t be any...

The legendary Nile Rodgers brought a whole lot of funk to the NPR office for the latest iteration of their Tiny Desk Concert series.
Rodgers’ six-song setlist serves as a useful reminder of just how ubiquitous his music is. He and his Chic bandmates kicked things off with their 1978 disco classic “Le Freak,” the whoops and hollers of the vocalists meshing with those from the equally-energized audience.
“Obviously, every song we’re gonna play today is a song I wrote,” Rodgers said between songs with a smile, laughing off the braggadocio of the statement. But bragging is absolutely called for when you’ve written tunes like Diana Ross’ “I’m Coming Out,” Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family,” and Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” all of which Rodgers also performed at the Tiny Desk.

Nile Rodgers and Chic brought the “maximum funkocity” to Nrp’s Tiny Desk, delivering a half-hour set of classics from both the Chic catalogue and songs co-written by Rodgers himself.
The set opened with Chic’s “Le Freak,” and from there went on to feature Diana Ross’ “I’m Coming Out, Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family,” Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” (all co-written by Rodgers), Chic’s own “Good Times” interpolated with the Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight,” and concluded with the David Bowie/Rodgers collabo “Let’s Dance.

The Masked Singer, the return of Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, Lego Masters and David Spade-hosted game show Snake Oil are among the slew of unscripted titles leading Fox’s fall schedule as the writers and actors strikes take a bite out of the scripted broadcast season.
There’s plenty more where that came from, according to recently installed President of Unscripted Programming Allison Wallach. But, don’t expect a reality boom for the sake of it, she adds.
Wallach is overseeing her first fall schedule in her new role; the former boss of Fox Alternative Entertainment took over in December, replacing Rob Wade, who was named CEO of the company.
She has got off to a good start. The Masked Singer returned for Season 10 with an opener that featured old faces and a surprise performance by Demi Lovato before bringing in the new crop of secret celebrities.

Thousands of actors have been walking the picket lines across LA and New York today and it’s clear that the SAG-AFTRA strike against the studios is going to continue to wreak havoc on scripted television.
But many of these faces are also now in charge of hosting, exec producing and competing in unscripted series for the broadcast networks, leading to the question of whether shows such as The Voice, Dancing with the Stars and The Masked Singer will be impacted by the strike.
It led network execs, producers and agents to scramble yesterday, making frantic phone calls to talent and figuring out the landscape as it pertains to the walkout.
The short answer, it seems, is that the majority of these shows, which make up the bulk of the fall schedules, will still be able to go ahead with production, thanks to a different contract set up.

Good news about Jamie Foxx’s health keeps coming in, as sources are saying the Academy Award-winning actor “was in good spirits and having a good time” over the weekend while taking some recreational swings at Topgolf.
Adding to the observation about Jamie Foxx’s health, the source told People, “He looks healthy…He didn’t need any physical assistance.” This – coupled with his recent venture out on a boat – is definitely good news for his recovery. His outings come three months after he was taken to the hospital following an undisclosed “medical complication” while shooting Netflix’s Back in Action. The movie was finished with body doubles.
Jamie Foxx also apparently has a strong support system keeping him company and safe following his spring health scare. “There were other guests on the floor, it wasn’t fully private. They came in through a side entrance on the third floor right to their section…...

Aside from its regular “Fox Animation Domination” block on Sunday nights, Fox’s fall schedule is taking a more alternative approach this year as the WGA strike continues to remain an issue for Hollywood.

Those programming blocks have instead been filled with unscripted shows like “Celebrity Name that Tune” and “Kitchen Nightmares” and animated series like newcomer”Krapopolis” (which recently got a long overdue premiere date) and mainstays like “The Simpsons,” “Bob’s Burgers” and “Family Guy.”
Hosted by Jane Krakowski and band leader Randy Jackson, “Celebrity Name That Tune” is an all-celebrity edition with games that will test the musical knowledge of athletes, musicians, actors, TV personalities, comedians and Olympians as they play for their favorite charities with a chance to win over $150,000. Fox has finally unveiled its fall schedule and, as expected, it’s full of unscripted series and animated shows.
The network once again eschewed plans to launch its fall schedule in May, as the other broadcast networks did. Last year, the network unveiled its 2022/23 schedule in the first week of June.
The fact that Fox is leaning entirely on reality shows and animated series, as well as wrestling, is not a surprise given the fact that the writers strike, which is in Day 71, has disrupted production, as well as the threat of an actors strike.
It has parked its lineup of scripted series including 9-1-1: Lone Star, The Cleaning Lady, Accused, Alert: Missing Persons Unit, Animal Control and new series such as Doc and Rescue: Hi-Surf for the time being.

Hollywood star Jamie Foxx has been photographed in public for the first time since enduring a sudden medical complication that led to his April hospitalisation.
Foxx was recently seen in a boat on the Chicago River, reports Variety. Foxx appeared to be healthy in the footage, throwing a peace sign to the cameraman. He was onboard with several other guests.
TMZ shared footage of the actor from the boat ride. Foxx was admitted to an Atlanta hospital in April after facing a “medical complication.”
His daughter, Corinne Foxx, confirmed the situation at the time: “Luckily due to quick action and great care he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time.”

Updated: The network upfronts are once again front-and-center for the television industry as major players gather in New York May 15-17 for the springtime ritual of presenting programming plans for the upcoming TV season.
Upfronts are always a hectic time, but this year it’s even more so because of the writers strike that began May 2. Writers and many actors are sitting out the upfront presentations in solidarity with the Writers Guild of America. The promise of WGA pickets surrounding all major events spurred Netflix to make a hasty decision to switch to a virtual presentation rather than an in-person event at the company’s Paris Theater.
As content chiefs outline their plans for the 2022-2023 television season, here is a running list of new drama and comedy series orders handed out by ABC, Disney, CBS, Warner Bros. Discovery, NBC, Fox, the CW and other major players in the upfront.

Jamie Foxx is looking to get back into the spotlight as soon as possible, as it was just announced that he and his daughter Corinne will be co-hosting the game show We Are Family, set to premiere on Fox next year.
The news comes the week after Corinne Foxx revealed that her father Jamie had been released from the hospital following a “medical complication.” The details of that episode have yet to be disclosed, leading to much speculation as to what happened with Jamie. Corinne Foxx, who has been the de facto spokesperson for Jamie, didn’t help matters much when she announced that he had actually been out for some time, posting on Instagram, “update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild. My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating. In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support!

It looks like Fox is taking a wait-and-see approach to the Hollywood Writers strike.
The network on Monday picked up more series for the 2023-24 season but didn't announce a fall schedule.
CBS and NBC announced their fall plans last week, with ABC and The CW to follow this week, but it looks like Fox is holding off on confirming which shows will be airing in the year's final months.
This isn't much of a change from last year when Fox held off on a fall schedule until June.
Given the work stoppage due to the Wtiers Strike, there's a good chance many of the network's scripted shows won't be available for a fall bow.
As a result, the fall schedule will likely be governed by what happens in the coming weeks regarding the strike.
"Rather than announce a schedule today that we may not be able to meet, we're...

Fox unveiled its 2023/24 programming slate this morning and the writers strike was front and center.
The network, which, once again, didn’t unveil a schedule, said that it has a “solid” contingency plan given the current situation between the WGA and the AMPTP.
Fox Entertainment CEO Rob Wade said, “Obviously, nobody wants this strike and our thoughts go out to the writers at the moment. But we feel very confident in our schedule and our ability to pivot as and when necessary. Current there are no changes to the schedule but as the summer continues, we’ll look at that carefully and make the right decisions going forward.”
Wade said that it will have originals throughout the year including a slew of unscripted titles.
“We just went through a global pandemic and three years ago, we had original programming starting 16 days after the Covid pandemic began with our iHeart special.

For the second straight year, Fox is not releasing a fall schedule at its upfront presentation. Whenever the network does announce its plans, it will include a healthy dose of unscripted programming.
The broadcaster did release its slate of primetime series for the 2023-24 season Monday morning, and it features near parity between the number of scripted (13) and unscripted (12) shows. The latter category includes renewals for Farmer Wants a Wife and Special Forces; new game shows Snake Oil, hosted by David Spade, and We Are Family, hosted by Jamie and Corinne Foxx and from the same producers as Beat Shazam; and the returns of I Can See Your Voice, which took the 2022-23 season off, and Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, last seen on Fox way back in 2014 — when it shared space on the schedule with the first seasons of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Sleepy Hollow.

For the second year in a row, Fox is not releasing a fall schedule ahead of its upfront presentation.
Fox did the same thing in 2022, opting instead to announce their content slate for the upcoming broadcast season but holding off on announcing a formal schedule until a later date. Last year, the move came as the network was still waiting on decisions on the dramas “9-1-1” and “The Resident.” But with the latter show canceled and the former moving to ABC, this year’s move comes as the writers’ strike enters its third week.
Networks like CBS and NBC have already announced their fall lineups, but whether or not any primetime scripted shows across all the networks debut as scheduled remains to be seen as the strike drags on.

Fox Entertainment will have its new CEO, Rob Wade, making his debut at the network’s upfront presentation today. In a sign of continuity, he will unveil the Fox content slate for the 2023-2024 television season but not a schedule. The network first broke with tradition by not presenting a fall grid at the upfront last year; Fox announced fall schedule and premiere dates June 6.
The network did away with unveiling a fall schedule at its May 2022 presentation because, in media companies’ multi-platform pitch to advertisers, that does not have the importance and urgency it once did. That strategy is even more timely this year because of the uncertainty surrounding the networks’ fall schedules amid the ongoing WGA strike.

Jimmy Fallon cranked up the love for Ariana DeBose’s viral rap from this year’s BAFTAs ceremony, donning a wig, a tan Stetson and strumming a guitar as he nailed an impression of the iconic musician Neil Young — singing “Angela Bassett did the thing.”
“The Tonight Show” announcer Steve Higgins introduced the act on Monday, saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, Neil Young,” and pointing to a darkened center stage. The camera panned to a single yellow light shining down onto a man sitting on a black stool. Although unable to see his face in the shadows, the hat, the long hair, the guitar resting on his leg and a harmonica held below his mouth gave hint to what was to come.
And then Fallon began to sing. Or was it Neil Young? Hard to tell because it was that spot-on! Listen to Fallon in the clip at the top and decide for yourself.

Ariana DeBose is speaking out for the first time since her “Angela Bassett did the thing” rap performance at the 2023 BAFTA Awards went viral.
In a preview for an upcoming interview on BBC Radio 2’s “The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show” posted Saturday on TikTok, the “West Side Story” star brushes away the criticism and instead chooses to focus on the love she’s received. Ball’s among DeBose’s fans who loved the performance, saying “it was a woman, singing and dancing, being magnificent, celebrating women onstage.”

Ariana DeBose is doing the thing and sharing her thoughts about the reaction to her much-debated viral rap from the recent 2023 BAFTA Awards ceremony.

During Sunday’s awards ceremony, DeBose rapped about a number of the nominees and used the line “Angela Bassett did the thing,” leading to widespread social media commentary.

Her carousel included footage from the stage of Lizzo’s Thursday concert in Amsterdam, during which the music star told her audience to “shake it off” before twice reciting the now-infamous line about Bassett and seeming to mimic DeBose’s body movement from the awards show.

Her carousel included footage from the stage of Lizzo’s Thursday concert in Amsterdam, during which the music star told her audience to “shake it off” before twice reciting the now-infamous line about Bassett and seeming to mimic DeBose’s body movement from the awards show.
DeBose’s post also included a tweet from Halle Berry that used the Bassett line,...

The 2023 BAFTAs on Sunday were supposed to be about the awards, but social media is focused on just one musical performance from the evening.
Oscar-winning “West Side Story” star Ariana DeBose performed a medley during the British awards show, celebrating the role of women in entertainment.

Included in the medley were takes on “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves” and “We Are Family”. In between those, though, was an original rap paying tribute to the night’s female nominees.

Just a day after stealing the show at the 2023 BAFTA Awards, Ariana DeBose has already gained her defenders. Nick Bullen, a producer of the ceremony, has criticized those that mocked the “West Side Story” Oscar Winner’s opening rap performance, calling the criticism “incredibly unfair.”
During the Sunday night ceremony, DeBose performed a medley of the songs “Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves” and “We Are Family” onstage with a group of backup dancers. In the middle of her performance, DeBose launched into a rap in which she shouted out the various women nominated and present at the ceremony: “Angela Bassett did the thing, Viola Davis my ‘Woman King,’ Blanchett Cate you’re a genius, Jamie Lee you are all of us.” Her rap, particularly the “Angela Bassett did the thing” moment, immediately went viral, with clips of it flooding Twitter.

BAFTAs awards producer Nick Bullen believes Twitter criticism of Ariana DeBose’s opening number at Sunday’s awards show was “incredibly unfair.”
Speaking to Variety the morning after the telecast, the producer — who was backstage during the London awards ceremony honoring the best movies of the year — shared that the “West Side Story” star “put the whole piece together” with her team, working closely with a musical director and choreographer, and didn’t deserve the vitriol.
DeBose and her back-up dancers burst onto the stage following host Richard E. Grant’s opening monologue. Belting out “Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves” and “We Are Family,” the singer transitioned into an original rap saluting the awards’ female nominees.
“Angela Bassett did the thing, Viola Davis my ‘Woman King,’ Blanchett Cate you’re a genius, Jamie Lee you are all of us,” sang DeBose, who danced her way around the front row...

The West Side Story star put in one of the all-time great berserk musical performances with a bespoke song celebrating, by name, many of this year’s female nominees
If you didn’t watch the Baftas last night, it means you missed one of the all-time great berserk musical performances ever seen: Angela Bassett Did the Thing.
That wasn’t its official name, by the way. Nobody knows what the official name was. Technically it was a musical performance by Ariana DeBose, but it was a performance so gormless, so busy, so deeply and unsettlingly confusing, that to give it a name would only serve to minimise it. Angela Bassett Did the Thing came as the middle part of DeBose’s medley celebrating women. The first part was a full-bore rendition of Sisters are Doin’ It For Themselves; in itself an orgy of spinning and twirling and flung chairs, performed...
