The Justice League. The Teen Titans. Heck, even the Outsiders. Most comic readers know these superhero teams from DC Comics, and can probably name at least a few key members, if not favorite stories.
But for a while in the 1980s, one team topped them all, rivaling even Chris Claremont’s X-Men run for comic shop supremacy: Legion of Super-Heroes won over readers with its futuristic space opera and its cast of unique characters.
The basic premise of the Legion of Super-Heroes is simple. 1000 years in the future, a group of superpowered teens take inspiration from Superboy and become heroes, most using powers they gained from their native planets. Like the best Superman stories, Legion tales tend to be optimistic and hopeful, certain that humanity can overcome its problems and work toward a better tomorrow.
But actually reading the Legion can be a bit daunting. Because of the future setting,...

Keith Giffen, known both as a comic book writer and artist whose characters have appeared in live-action franchises from Marvel and DC Comics, has died. He was 70 years old and had worked in comics since 1976.
Giffen was known for having a hand in the creation of characters including Lobo, Guardians of the Galaxy furry teammate Rocket Raccoon and the modern Jaime Reyes version of Blue Beetle. He also wrote acclaimed runs of “Justice League” and the “Legion of Super-Heroes,” as well as creating the cult fourth-wall-breaking character Ambush Bug (a decade earlier than Deadpool).
He died Sunday of a stroke, according to media reports (first reported by Bleeding Cool), but the news of his death wasn’t made public until Wednesday evening.
The comic creator often brought a wry sense of humor to his work. That included a posthumous Facebook post he’d arranged to have put up Wednesday after his death,...

Brian Michael Bendis, the legendary comics writer and one of the sharpest eyes for talent in the entire comics industry, is wrapping up his long run on the Superman comics in December.
Bendis made the jump to DC in 2018, after a 17 year run at Marvel, and immediately landed on DC’s biggest character. Man of Steel launched his run which, when combined with his follow ups on Action Comics and Superman, will have stretched to almost 75 issues after December’s Action Comics #1028 and Superman #28 hit. And that doesn’t include the books that are all tying together when he wraps.
According to the solicitation text, these two issues will pull in pieces of everything Bendis has had a hand in creating since joining DC. That includes Greg Rucka and Mike Perkins’ Lois Lane; Matt Fraction and Steve Lieber’s superlative Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen; the monster, Scott Snyder-helmed...

Justice League vs. The Fatal Five is a reunion of talent and style that bridges the old and the new.
Nearly 27 years after the Bruce Timm-developed DC Animated Universe began in 1992 with Batman: The Animated Series, and 13 after it ended in 2006 with Justice League Unlimited, the so-called Timm-verse is … well, not quite back. Yet the new animated film Justice League vs. The Fatal Five is a reunion of talent, and style, but with a new class of heroes joining the iconic characters (and the actors who voiced them) for a largely satisfying adventure.
Executive produced by Timm, the film reunites Kevin Conroy, Susan Eisenberg, and George Newbern to voice, respectively, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman – roles for which their performances are definitive. Visually the movie also looks like the Justice League Unlimited animation style, complete with character Easter eggs that call back to heroes (and a couple Arkham...

Being someone who owns every DC Universe animated movie, I can certainly remember when the line kicked off in 2007 with Superman: Doomsday. To this day, I love that one through and through, though I’m able to understand the most common complaint aimed in its direction: the flick just didn’t adhere to the source material enough.
If you’re unfamiliar with the situation, I’ll give you the gist of it. Basically, the filmmakers condensed Big Blue’s demise and resurrection into one picture, therefore it honored the comic book on which it was based, yet was largely an original story. Fortunate for the sticklers out there, The Death of Superman and its eventual followup, Reign of the Supermen, look to rectify all that.
Truth be told, it’s not exactly the strict adaptation that you yourself may be looking for, but what this epic two-parter will do is...

TV’s first transgender superhero is coming to the CW’s Supergirl. Transgender activist Nicole Maines is set as a regular in the upcoming fourth season as Nia Nal, aka Dreamer. In addition, April Parker Jones has been cast as series regular Colonel Haley and David Ajala will recur as Manchester Black. The castings were announced during the Supergirl panel Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con.
Maines’ Nia Nal is the newest addition to the CatCo reporting team. A soulful young transgender woman with a fierce drive to protect others, Nia’s journey this season means fulfilling her destiny as the superhero Dreamer (much like Kara came into her own as Supergirl).

We've already seen the regular comic covers for DC Comics' upcoming Looney Tunes and DC superhero crossover event. In the series, several classic Looney Tunes characters will cross paths with DC superheroes that include Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Lobo, Jonah Hex, and the Legion of Super-Heroes.
This looks like it will be a fun comic series. They all look like they will be so much fun to read. Each of the characters that cross paths in the series are perfect for each other. I included information on each of the comics below.

A couple of weeks ago some artwork surfaced teasing a DC Comics special event crossover series involving the Looney Tunes. Today we have some actual story details about the comics that will be coming out, and they sound pretty damn entertaining. The one that I'm most looking forward to reading involves Elmer Fudd stalking Batman.
The Looney Tunes characters will cross paths with DC characters that will include Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Lobo, Jonah Hex, and the Legion of Super-Heroes.
Below you'll find the cover art and details for each one:

The Legion Of Doom is the best episode of Legends of Tomorrow this season, and possibly its best ever.
This Legends of Tomorrow review contains spoilers.
2.10 The Legion Of Doom
Usually it takes me until the last third of an episode to start writing it up, but The Legion Of Doom started so well that I couldn’t hold back. From the opening to the first commercial, I must have written at least eight lines in all caps:
Darhk Does The Intro! That’S New! And The Legion Is Bickering And Infighting! This Is Perfect! Or Oh Shit, That’S How They’Re Gonna Deal With Lily!
This episode was pure fanservice from the very beginning, and I loved every second of it.

In the new hit series Preacher, based on the cult comic book, Texas preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) is possessed by an angel-demon entity, imbuing him with not just any ordinary super-power, but ‘The Word of God’- whereby people must obey his commands when he talks in a strange voice. It takes Jesse some getting used to before he can fully utilise this powerful and peculiar new skill. Here are some other of the strangest – and possibly most useless – superpowers that comic book characters have been given.

DC in the 80s is a Webzine for the DC Comics Fans with an affinity for 80s comics. It’s fun, upbeat and engaging. Justin Francoeur and Mark Belkin keep the fan fires burning with wit and a great degree of nostalgic professionalism. I’m fascinated by the their endeavor, so I reached out to discuss it with them.
Ed Catto: Can you tell me a little bit about the site and how it came about?
Justin Francoeur: My formative years of comic book reading were during the early 80s to the early-to-mid 90s. Roughly six years ago, there wasn’t much on the Internet about DC Comics from the 80s (or it was scattered all over the place and not easy to find) so I decided to make a tumblr blog specifically spotlighting the house ads of that era. There were a lot of ‘buried gems’ in that time...

Think about this for a moment: we almost had a Justice League TV series from Steven DeKnight, who worked as showrunner/executive producer on one of the finest pieces of superhero television ever with Marvel's Daredevil season one on Netflix. The Justice League TV series would have been a Smallville spinoff, featuring the team that we met in season 6, episode 11, the appropriately titled Justice. That episode teamed Clark with Bart Allen (The Flash), Arthur Curry (Aquaman), Victor Stone (Cyborg), and Oliver Queen (Green Arrow...played by Justin Hartley, not Stephen Amell).

Last week I tore DC Entertainment a new bum-port over their recent efforts to entertain the masses. If you didn’t read it, let me sum it up for you.
I was, and I still am, butthurt over how terrible Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Martha as well as Justice League: War! Huh! Good-God. What is it good for? Absolutely Nothing! But I digress.
As I’d been buried in freelance work this past week, I’ve found that firing up Netflix on my second screen helps me focus. Headphone blaring quality programming on demand whilst I graphic design my way out of the hole I dug has been very fruitful as of late. I was able to binge-lance my way through season 4 of House of Cards, rewatch the first season of Better Caul Saul, rewatch the entirety of Breaking Bad (because, how could I not?), and watch the...

Some thoughts on last night's The Flash coming up just as soon as I'm Cloud City Vadering you... "Welcome to Earth-2" fit into a rich tradition from comic books and sci-fi television where characters meet their counterparts from a parallel universe and marvel at how different some things are, and how similar others are. See also the various "Mirror, Mirror" Star Trek episodes, Evil Willow on Buffy, Peter Parker befriending Miles Morales, and, of course, the many DC Comics stories (starting waaaay back with 1961's "The Flash of Two Worlds") that brought together the heroes and/or villains of Earth-1 and Earth-2. Earth-2 was originally dreamed up as a way to explain why Flash, Green Lantern, and a few other DC heroes of the '50s and '60s were so different from the characters that bore the same name during World War II, and I appreciated that this show's...

In Lego DC Comics Super Heroes – Justice League: Cosmic Clash, the brilliant, hyper-obsessive-compulsive, super-computer Brainiac is combing the universe for new additions to his collection of worlds when he stumbles upon a ripe planet for his taking – Earth. But Brainiac quickly discovers Earth has a “firewall” – the Justice League. When Brainiac cleverly displaces several members of the Justice League to other time periods in Earth’s history, Batman, Flash and Cyborg must build and use the Cosmic Treadmill to race across time to retrieve their comrades – while members of the Legion of Super Heroes attempt to hold off Brainiac’s assault. Only time will tell in this battle for the fate of the Earth and the Justice League!

DC and Warner Bros have big plans in store for the big and their various superheroes, but aside from a couple, we don't know what they may be. New reports have come in now, however, that shed light on one project that's currently being developed: the Legion of Superheroes!
Smells like teen spirit. The time-traveling, teen-aged super-team, who began as sidekicks for Superboy, may be coming to a theater near you. The generally reliable Latino Review has sources who say DC/Warner Bros. is “quietly” developing the Legion project, as a response to the unexpected success of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which has earned over $300 million domestically and is still going strong. That overachieving C-list Marvel property has already out-grossed DC’s disappointing Man of Steel, which has surprised everyone, since Superman is an iconic name and almost nobody outside of comic fans has ever heard of the Guardians.

The lesson here is that it’s all about the quality of the movie,...

DC Comics is often brought under scrutiny by fans who feel the company does anything it can to sell more books. Coming from the viewpoint of both a business person and comic book fan, I can wholeheartedly understand their difficult position. It's their job to deliver, on a monthly basis, challenging and somewhat unique concepts and storylines which will keep people thumbing through the pages of the latest issues featuring their favorite super heroes. DC has successfully done it again with Justice League 3000.
Justice League 3000 Issue #1 takes us into the distant future where the galaxy and, more specifically, Earth lies in the aftermath of some cataclysmic disaster. A duo called the Wonder Twins has been sanctioned by Cadmus to re-create a new Justice League from the DNA they've kept throughout the decades. Contemporary, yet flawed, versions of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, and Green Lantern are generated to do...

After months of anticipation the latest Scribblenauts adventure is out, taking the popular series in a new direction, namely into the DC Universe. Series hero Maxwell and his twin sister Lily have a debate over who’s the better hero, batman or Superman, and decide the best way to find out is to go there and find out. So with the help of Maxwell’s magic notepad that can create anything he writes in it, and Lily’s magic globe that can transport them anywhere they like, they head for Gotham City, where things…so not go smoothly.

DC Comics made sure that everyone knows what happens at the end of Batman Inc. #8. Releasing the spoiler weeks in advance to major news outlets, elderly people watching Fox News at 3 Am know what happened in that book. If you were able to read it without being spoiled congratulations, but just in case you hadn’t DC made sure to ruin it by putting a spoiler on the cover for every Batman related book this month. Teen Titans 18 is no exception – there it is right on the cover.
The first few pages of this book deal with those events seen in Batman Inc., and the effect it has on young Tim Drake. Lobdell tries his hardest to reconcile Tim Drake’s place in the New 52 universe, he apparently wasn’t Robin but he kind of was. It’s all very confusing and a bit over complicated. Interview conducted by and copyright Edward Gross There’s a change coming to the DC Tooniverse, and not just with the cancellation of Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series, but in terms of the continuing series of made for Blu-ray/DVD films that began with Superman Doomsday in 2007 and will next be represented by this May’s Superman Unbound. Most notably, Bruce Timm, who has been guiding the vast majority of things DC animated since the debut of Batman: The Animated Series in 1992, has stepped down from his position as producer, initially to have focused his energies on Gl and, more significantly, to develop some of his own projects. Stepping into his place as supervising producer is James Tucker. Tucker, of course, is no newbie to this world having served as producer of Justice League, Legion of Super Heroes and Batman: The Brave and the Bold. He's also...

Last year I wrote an article about the wave of amazing comic-book related cartooning that was going on. Well, here we are now and I’m sitting on the stoop with an Old English tipped towards the curb. Ounce after putrid smelling ounce of malt liquor spatters on the pavement. The yeasty brew gurgles and slushes into an adjacent drain.
Why am I pouring out a forty? Well, it seems Cartoon Network has given the axe to both Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series. And kiddos? I’m depressed.
Both Young Justice and Green Lantern have slowly grown into their skin, delivering stories that are equally entertaining and sophisticated without losing any action beats for those just looking for the boom-boom-pow. Both series combined with a pair of schizophrenically wonderful animated shorts, have grown into the only block of programming I go out of my way to DVR and watch commercial free,...

At the onset of the New52 there was a buzz and excitement over the flagship character of DC Entertainment. Known as (perhaps) the most recognizable comic book character of all time, Superman was all set to be relaunched for a new age… towing the company behind his Nehru collar and underpantsless new uniform. Well, here we are now 16 months after the super-retcon, and I ask you… are things as we’d all hoped?
In a word? No. In more than a word? Not a chance. In a timely metaphor? Not even by a Joe Flacco longshot. The Superman property is, just as it was prior to the New52: convoluted, marred by an already high barrier to entry, and choked on it’s own backwash of continuity errors and creator squabbles. The real question emerges: Why did it all go wrong?
Well, one finger of shame lay with a writer I admire quite a bit.

If you're not among the comic book faithful and you didn't watch the short-lived TV series Birds of Prey, it's likely you haven't heard of the Huntress.
The superheroine was depicted (in the earlier comics and in the TV show) as the daughter of Batman and Catwoman in the alternate universe known as Earth-Two. And after a later change of persona, it seems she is returning to her roots.
It comes as part of DC Comics' monumental retooling. Five months in, its line of restarted titles - the New 52 - continues to expand and is now bringing into play the use of the second Earth and its different renditions of our heroes.
One of the writers leading that charge is DC veteran and one-time company president/publisher Paul Levitz.

DC Comics announced on Monday that Wonder Woman, one of their top characters, was getting an all new origin. Aw yeah, origins!
People love big deals. And one of the biggest deals in comics over the past few years is the DC Relaunch. And rightly so. I mean, it's one of the biggest comic book companies in the industry sort of erasing their entire history to start over. I say sort of because they didn't make a real cut, they picked and chose what to relaunch and what to keep. But still, it's a safe way to appeal to any new reader that the products could appeal. This is the blog post from Jim Shooter, former Marvel big wig! Sometime in February, 1984, my secretary (it was okay to say “secretary” in those days) the wonderful Lynn Cohen told me that Bill Sarnoff was on the phone. Not his secretary, Bill Sarnoff himself, holding for me.
Great Scott!
Bill Sarnoff was the Big Cheese, I forget his exact title, of the publishing arm of Warner Communications. Among the operations under his purview was DC Comics.
Bill introduced himself, as if that was necessary. What he wanted to talk about was licensing the publishing rights for all DC characters to Marvel Comics.
Holy hegemony, Billman!
Bill said, more or less, that Marvel seemed to be able to turn a substantial profit on publishing comics, as opposed to DC, which consistently lost money, a lot of money, and had for a long time. On the other hand, Lca (Licensing Corporation...

Can you imagine a world in which Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern belonged to the Marvel Universe? Apparently it actually almost happened! one of Marvel's most controversial editors, Jim Shooter, revealed that Marvel almost bought a bunch of these DC comics superhero properties back in the early 80's.
Back in 1984 DC Comics was going through a rough time, while Marvel was thriving and dominating the market. Because of DC's hard times Bill Sarnoff of Warner Communications contacted Shooter and told him they were interested in offering them the licensing and publishing rights for all DC characters.
Here's the full explanation of what went down with this deal via Shooters blog,

#16 Matter-Eating
Yes, we’re going start here. From the Legion of Super Heroes, Tenzil Kem, Aka Matter-Eater Lad hailed from the planet Bismoil and could eat anything as a form of survival. No need for food to stay fresh, hydrated, or heated. Got some nuts and blots lying around? Food. Find a leather couch? Food. Again this does nothing in terms of ridding the world of zombies, so you’d still have to wield a gun, ax or sword and do the manual labor of clearing mutha’s out, and surviving, but matter-eating is a good resource to have especially when food is a premium and waste of time. Also related would be the powers of fellow Bismoilian, Calorie Queen who could turn caloric energy into super strength.
Also good for: absolutely nothing else.

Today turned out to be a popular day for being angry at things, as Neil Gaiman pointed to a Star Tribune article in which a Minnesota politician singled him out for being a burden on the state and called the writer a "pencil-necked little weasel." Needless to say, many folks in the comics community disagree with that characterization (I've always found Gaiman to be a fine, gentlemanly fellow) and tweeted their support.

There's only one episode of "Smallville" remaining before the series' two-hour finale, and it looks like Clark Kent and the rest of Metropolis' heroes won't have an easy time of it as the decade-long saga wraps up next week.

If you've been wondering what Jock and Dave Gibbons have been up to recently, it was a good morning to checking your Twitter feeds. It appears that Jock's body of Judge Dredd work continues to grow, while Mark Millar compared Gibbons to Steven Spielberg in discussing their new collaboration.
Elsewhere, creators contemplated stories that are much less likely to see the light of day, though Chris Weston's Star Trek movie pitch and Brian Denham's Marvel Universe "Cars" homage are both things that I would pay money to experience. Check those out along with some expectations for the next iPad and thoughts on Ricky Gervais' jokes at the Golden Globes Sunday.

@mbreitweiser Been sucking down the iPad2 rumors between panels today. If these 4x pixel rumors are true, then comics are going to look mind-blowing.

Last week, we gave you an exclusive first look at "Young Justice" villain Mister Twister, who will make his debut in next week's episode of the new Cartoon Network animated series. Before that happens, however, the two-part series premiere continues tonight (7 Pm Eastern on Cartoon Network) with "Independence Day, Part 2."
Given the great response to the six-minute "Young Justice" trailer we premiered here on Splash Page back in November, the adventures of DC's new teen superhero team have found quite a following — which is why I reached out to producers Greg Weisman ("Gargoyles") and Brandon Vietti ("Batman: Under The Red Hood") for more info about how the series came together and what to expect this season.
From team-building decisions to finding a place for the series in DC continuity, Weisman and Vietti offered a great look at the past, present, and future of their teenage team.

Horoscope watchers have been scratching their heads this week, thanks to some zodiac changes being implemented. Sign shifts and the addition of a new one called Ophiuchus could impact tattoos all over the place, though comics creators mostly think the whole institution is wacky to begin with and/or wonder what the implications will be for the Marvel Comics super-villain team.
Meanwhile, Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man costume has been grabbing some eyes. You'll find out who likes the web-shooters, who's withholding his opinion and who drew a badass Wolverine (even in 2007) down below.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is your Twitter Report for January 14, 2010.
Zodiac pt. 1: @swierczy Right now, somewhere in the world, the Zodiac Killer is reading the internet and going, F-----------.

Comic book sales didn't shine for the direct market this year, and Twitter turned into a bit of a roundtable discussion this morning as a result, with Geoff Johns, Jimmy Palmiotti, Jamal Igle and others weighing in with hopes, complaints and ideas.
Artwork posts were alive and well, however, with Yildiray Cinar sharing a step-by-step walkthrough of a Black Cat card he recently finished and Lea Hernandez posting a shot of a commission she finished. Those retweets and a provocative analysis of the relationship between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader await you below.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is your Twitter Report for December 29, 2010.
Comics pt. 1: @jpalmiotti you know what is depressing? reading the sales numbers of comics for the last month.
-Jimmy Palmiotti, Writer ("Jonah Hex," "Painkiller Jane")
Comics pt. 2: @GeoffJohns0 @Jamaligle Grocery stores could be a gateway to comic shops. It was for me. Anything to...

For fans of video games based on comic book properties, 2010 wasn't exactly a busy year. After "Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions," the only other major release scheduled for the year was "DC Universe Online," Sony Online Entertainment's upcoming game that allows players to create their own heroes or villains and interact with Superman, Batman, and the rest of DC's stable of characters.
All that changed last month, though, when "DC Universe" was pushed back to a 2011 release date. Citing a need to "address community feedback in a meaningful way," Sony delayed the release of the much-anticipated Mmorpg and has yet to announce a new date for the game to hit shelves.
I recently spoke to veteran comic book artist and DC Comics co-publisher Jim Lee, who also serves as Executive Creative Director for "DC Universe Online," and got some details about the delay — as well as some interesting thoughts on how the...
