In January 2007, US network A&E began airing the edited-for-syndication reruns of the show. Scenes featuring nudity, sexual activity and violence were replaced with alternate versions or were excised completely. The profanity was dubbed over.
Seasons 1-3 had to have the Twin Towers digitally removed from later reruns following the terrorist attacks in 2001 in New York City
In Canada, the CTV network shown the first season uncut during Fall 2000. But because the producers of The Sopranos did not secure international rights to some music played in the background, other music was used instead.
