At the climax of the final race sequence, Charley (the red-headed crewman cut from the boat) is seen on the rail of the spectator yacht watching the race, and then inside watching on television in the next shot.
At about 1:38:15, in the first moments of the final race parade, Geronimo and Platipus are seen under their main sails when both boats are flying their colors on forestays. In the next shot, the mainsail on Geronimo down folded on the boom.
The underwater keel shots shown in final race are obviously in a tank and not in open ocean.
At the end of the final race, the start/finish boat was not manned and the gun was not in the correct position. Seconds later at the actual finish the boat was manned and the gun was in the correct firing position.
Early in the film, an American skipper is shown admiring and touching a "winged keel" prior to America losing the America's Cup in 1983. However, the "winged keel" design was a fiercely guarded secret, only known to select Australians until they revealed its design after their historic 1983 America's Cup victory. There was no way an American skipper knew of its design prior to 1983 and there were certainly no "winged keel" yachts in existence in the US prior to 1983.
