Having brought The Sandman successfully to screens (at least the initial chunk; :a[another season has been commissioned]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/tv/news/the-sandman-renewed-for-season-2/' }), Netflix is staying in the Neil Gaiman business by plucking another project based on his work, Dead Boy Detectives, from the howling limbo void of turnaround. Originally developed at Warner Bros. Stateside streaming service Max (back when it was still known as HBO Max), but punted when it was determined not to fit in with James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios plans (the comics originated at Vertigo).
Created by Gaiman alongside artists Matt Wagner and Malcolm Jones III for The Sandman #25, the story follows a pair of ghostly detectives as they investigate murders related to the supernatural, exploring loss, grief, and death through the lens of Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), two dead teenagers, and their very alive friend, Crystal Palace (Kassius Nelson...

Drew Tarver and Heléne Yorke — the titular stars in the HBO Max comedy The Other Two — are joking about the time they first met one another.
“We did a screen test together and, Heléne…, “ Tarver begins, “Remember you touched my face? Was that what it was? It was a sibling-esque touch.”
“It was nonconsensual,” Yorke says. “I didn’t ask. I just did.” She quickly shifts into pretending to be an outraged Tarver: “This one put her dirty paws all over me!“

“The Other Two” star Drew Tarver hopes the HBO Max comedy series goes on for a long time.
The actor, who co-headlines the inventive and comically genius show alongside Heléne Yorke, told TheWrap that the creative force of co-creators Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider could keep the Dubek family’s adventures going for years, finding new ways to explore the machinations of the entertainment industry in the process.
“I feel like every season has been such a fun level-up for the sad people that are these characters,” Tarver said. “I would love to see these characters go for, you know, 25 seasons (laughs)… I also obviously love everybody on the cast. Any time we spend time together, my life is happy.”
“I hope I haven’t been too desperate in this answer [but] please let us do more!”

Cary’s big movie is finally getting released after years of Covid delays on The Other Two — but of course, true stardom still might be out of reach.
Season 3 picks up three years later, as Curtis tells us on The Gay Minute that Cary’s movie Night Nurse is coming out after experiencing “the most Covid delays of any movie.” Cary is excitedly getting ready for his big Hollywood premiere… and he and Brooke both go with the “suit jacket, no shirt” look. Their famous little brother Chase is almost 18 years old now, which we know because everyone is lusting after the fresh meat,...

The Other Two is back for its third season, which means we're once again about to board the roller coaster that is Cary Dubek's (Drew Tarver) acting career. At the end of Season 2, Cary got the role he was coveting in the indie thriller Night Nurse (starring Edie Falco and Beanie Feldstein!). But that doesn't mean he's got it made. Season 3 sees Cary continue to scrap and push and make increasingly humiliating self-tapes to get the next role that will keep his career on the ascent.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the first two episodes of The Other Two Season 3.] The Other Two has returned, and Season 3 brings more of what we love about the show: humor, heart, and the inability for Chase’s (Case Walker) music career to go at all how he wants. Among the changes glimpsed in the first two episodes, which pick up post-pandemic: Cary’s (Drew Tarver) movie, Night Nurse, is (finally) out, and he meets a method actor who stays in character for the whole shoot for every role; Brooke (Heléne Yorke) and Lance (Josh Segarra) are engaged, and now both out of the industry, with him, a nurse and her quitting; Pat (Molly Shannon) has her own network and is so famous she can’t go for a stroll in Central Park without too many protocols; Chase’s album came out on January 6; and Streeter (Ken Marino) is representing people he found on TikTok. Season 3, for ...

It's been two years since we were last graced with new episodes of The Other Two, but in the show's universe it's been even longer. Forget about the Disgusting Brothers: Welcome back to the Despicable Twins of Max’s “The Other Two.”
The long-awaited Season 3 of the hit satirical series deepens its disdain for Hollywood, with siblings Brooke (Heléne Yorke) and Cary (Drew Tarver) grappling with finding meaning in their respective rising entertainment industry careers. Cary finally gets a bit of fame after his long-awaited breakout role in indie drama “Night Nurse” airs, while Brooke keeps cornering her marketing gig. Of course, both Cary and Brooke are still in the shadow of their Justin Bieber-esque pop star younger brother ChaseDreams (Case Walker) and TV mogul mother (Molly Shannon).

Paramount Pictures has landed Daniel H. Wilson’s spec script “The Blue Afternoon That Lasted Forever” from “A Quiet Place” producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller.
Form and Fuller will produce under their Fully Formed Entertainment banner, which signed a first-look deal at Paramount last summer.
Wilson adapted from his own short story, which follows a single dad and Nasa physicist who discovers a black hole that will strike earth in a matter of days. The problem is that no one, including his colleagues at Nasa, believes him. The one person that trusts him is his 10-year-old daughter, but that bond is now being threatened by a different force. Eric finds himself trying to save both his relationship with Marie and a populace unwilling to heed his warnings of the impending disaster.
Several bidders were chasing the spec, including Amblin, J.J. Abrams, Sony and MGM, before Paramount eventually landed it.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness recently hit a speed bump with the unexpected departure of director Scott Derrickson. Marvel Studios aren’t going to let a little thing like the creative mind behind the film being fired slow them down though and pre-production is still going ahead even as they search for his replacement.
The shoot is scheduled to begin later this year, with the pic still targeting a May 7th, 2021 release. As such, the sequel has now popped up on Production Weekly with a new synopsis that sheds some light on the plot:
“After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Dr. Stephen Strange continues his research on the Time Stone. But an old friend turned enemy seeks to destroy every sorcerer on Earth, messing with Strange’s plan and also causing him to unleash an unspeakable evil.”

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for “Luke Cage” Season 2, including the finale.]
“Luke Cage” series creator Cheo Hodari Coker is a longtime comic book fan, and it shows with the number of fun Easter eggs he includes in the show’s first outing. Since then, Netflix’s Marvel world has expanded, and therefore in Season 2, the show doesn’t hold back when it comes to pop culture references and full-blown crossovers. Many are obvious, but some are for diehards or eagle-eyed, pause-button-happy fans.
“Luke Cage” is the type of show that references the Avengers but never names them. It also exists in the present but feels retro thanks to the heavy ‘90s hip-hop influence and nods to the original comics when Luke Cage (Mike Colter) was drafting off the blaxploitation craze. Check out all the Easter eggs and pop-culture references we could find below, and let us know what we’re missing in the comments.

While the Avengers had Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury to bring them together, the character that connected the Defenders was Rosario Dawson’s tough nurse Claire Temple. Since first appearing as an ally and brief love interest to Matt Murdock in Daredevil season 1, Claire has turned up in Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist to help out the heroes when in need. In fact, the only season of a Marvel/Netflix show that she hasn’t featured in is the debut run of The Punisher.
So, it’s not too surprising to hear that Dawson will be reprising her role in the upcoming third season of Daredevil and the sophomore season of Iron Fist. The announcement comes from Discussing Film, and though they don’t specify how they came by this scoop, we heavily suspect they’re on the money with it.

You might forgive the fine folks over at Marvel Television Studios for thinking that they can do no wrong! Over the last several years they went from zero to 14 total series on Netflix, ABC, Fox, FX, Hulu and Freeform (whatever the hell that is) -- with several more in the pipeline. With all these shows it's hard to imagine that there's a demographic they haven't dominated yet... and you'd be wrong, apparently.
Speaking at the Edinburg TV Festival this week Marvel TV's senior VP of original programming, Karim Zreik, shared a few details of a new project they've developing with ABC:

The reception to Marvel’s Netflix shows has varied considerably from series to series - but something almost everyone agrees on is that Rosario Dawson’s character, Claire Temple, has been a highlight of them all. Like a Netflix Agent Coulson, it seems clear she’ll serve as the character who ultimately unites the team during the crossover series, The Defenders.
But it's possible her role is destined to be even more substantial than that. The ending of Iron Fist in particular hints that Claire may take the step Coulson never did and join the ranks of the (occasionally) costumed adventurers. We can't help but wonder: is she...

He attempts to go to a Dojo to train, which doesn't work as planned. At the end we get a surprise as someone is still alive.

Spare a thought for Claire Temple. Ever since Daredevil made a beeline for Netflix two whole years ago, Rosario Dawson’s kind-hearted nurse has patched up the Man Without Fear and Mike Colter’s Hero for Hire, not to mention giving some much-needed advice to the prickly Jessica Jones.
But on March 17th, the final Defender, Iron Fist, will call upon Claire Temple for medical aid, and a new clip from IGN sheds light on the first encounter between Temple and Danny Rand’s hero-in-training. Is Marvel’s steadfast supporting player slowly beginning to complete her transition to Night Nurse? It’s the one rumor that continues to do the rounds online, but until we hear official confirmation one way or another, you can get a better sense of Claire and Danny’s dynamic up above.

Eva Amurri Martino is not staying silent about her concerns that she may be suffering from depression.
In a blog post shared on her website HappilyEvaAfter.com, the mother of two — daughter Marlowe Mae, 2, and son Major James, 3 months — opened up about her difficult end to the year.
“A couple of days after Thanksgiving, our Night Nurse fell asleep while holding Major and dropped him, and he cracked his head on the hardwood floor,” Amurri Martino, 31, wrote. “Kyle and I were sleeping at the time and were awoken by the sound of his head hitting the floor, and then hysterical piercing screams.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is doing some press for the upcoming Doctor Strange, which means he’s being asked about all things Marvel. Sometimes it feels like he answers more questions about Marvel’s upcoming slate than he does for the film at hand. On November 4, audiences will get their next Marvel fix, and we’re sure Easter eggs and post-credits scenes will open up all-new fan speculation. For now, let’s make some sense out of the news at hand. Is Rachel McAdams playing Night Nurse in Doctor Strange? McAdams is credited as Christine Palmer and Palmer is a character in the all-but-forgotten Night Nurse comics. However, the character more popularly known as “Night Nurse,” and the one associated with Doctor Strange, is...

When Rachel McAdams confirmed that she would be joining Marvel's Doctor Strange last year, she did not mention what character she would be playing. Since then, we've seen glimpses of her in the trailers as some kind of medical practitioner named Christine Palmer, a former workmate of Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). Christina Palmer was also the name of a nurse who appeared in the short-lived 1970s Marvel comic book series Night Nurse, which followed three roommates who were also nurses on the night shift at a Manhattan hospital. The nurses were not superheroes but got involved in dramatic, sometimes dangerous situations. One of them, Linda Carter, started helping superheroes as Night Nurse and later became involved with Doctor Strange in a comic book series...

Doctor Strange is so close now it’s as though we can feel the breeze from the Sorcerer Supreme’s Cloak of Levitation. At the time of going to press, we’re three weeks out from the theatrical release of Scott Derrickson’s psychedelic picture and the Strange tidbits are arriving thick and fast.
Earlier this week, fans were treated to an appropriately trippy blacklight poster and international trailer, though we understand there are those of you who are remaining patient until the final feature bows on November 4. Don’t fret, we’ll keep any spoiler-sensitive material this side of the jump.
One welcome morsel of information is that Doctor Strange clocks in at under two hours in length – 114 minutes and 49 seconds, according to the BBFC – making it the second shortest entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe behind only Thor: The Dark World. The news comes hand-in-hand with a report...

As soon as it was confirmed that Rachel McAdams was playing Christine Palmer in Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange, a lot of fans jumped for joy at the thought of McAdams taking on the mantle of the superhero-aiding Night Nurse, which the character does in the comics. But it sounds like that excitement may have been premature.
EW sat down with Marvel Studios president and Doctor Strange producer Kevin Feige, who revealed that transformation won't occur in this film:
“I will say that that story line does not play into the movie,” he reveals. As for the future? “It’s just as much fun for us as it is for the fans to speculate about that.”
McAdams is a bit more vague, simply saying "Mum's the word on that one" when asked about it, but I think we can probably take Feige at his word here.

About a year ago I broke the story on Rachael McAdams' Doctor Strange role in which I said she''ll be playing Christine Palmer, one of the night shift nurses from Marvel's Night Nurse.
Since then, it was confirmed that McAdams was in indeed playing Christine Palmer and that had many fans wondering if her character might take on the mantle of the Night Nurse in the movies. EW had a chance to chat with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and told them there are no plans for Palmer to become Night Nurse...at least not yet.

As for the future? Feige isn't ruling out the possibility of that for a future film.

Marvel’s Doctor Strange will feature the big screen debut of Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), who adopts the mantle of Night Nurse in the comic books after she takes it upon herself to spend her evenings patching up New York City’s crop of superheroes. If that sounds familiar, it’s because Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple is currently doing the exact same thing on Marvel’s Netflix shows.
This character – who is actually an amalgamation of the comic book version of Claire Temple and the original Night Nurse, Linda Carter – has established herself as an invaluable ally to Luke Cage, Daredevil and Jessica Jones, and is set to continue her nocturnal medicinal activities right up until she joins them in The Defenders. McAdams’ Palmer is a doctor in the movie and could also travel down the same path at some point – but is there room for two Night Nurses...

Asked last year why Daredevil introduced Claire Temple as Night Nurse, former showrunner Steven DeKnight explained that while he had originally wanted to cast Rosario Dawson as Christine Palmer (the character who tends to New York City's injured vigilantes in the comic books), he was unable to do so due to Marvel's movie division telling him they had plans for her somewhere down the line. We now know that's in Doctor Strange, something which makes sense when you take into account the fact that the Sorcerer Supreme became romantically entangled with her in the source material. However, in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that there are no plans for Palmer to take on the Night Nurse mantle. Yet. "I will say that that story line does not play into the movie." But could it happen somewhere down the line? "It’s just as...

The last Defender finally has his trailer, so if you're all caught up on Luke Cage, take a gander at what's coming next.
Man they dropped this one at the perfect time. While some of us are still getting through episodes of Luke Cage or that have already watched the whole series like us real fans. Yeah, you heard me. Netflix and Marvel have released the trailer for the last man we need for the Defenders. Here it is guys, Danny Rand, The Iron Fist.
I said going into this series, do not skimp on the fighting and considering the multiple scenes we saw in the trailer, it looks like there will be plenty of it. Also considering Danny’s origin it looks like he’s going to be living in wealth but dressing like a bum. But screw all that noise look at that power of the Iron Fist represented.

Subtle, well-constructed and consistent, Luke Cage is emerging as Netflix's best-written Marvel series. Episode 5 viewing notes here...
Luke Cage is back! In his own show! And so are our Marvel-Netflix episode notes where we’ll do a bit of commentary and reference-spotting for each episode of the series. Feel free to read along as you watch too, but please don’t spoil future episodes for anyone in the comments!
As Stokes begins to extort the residents of Harlem (and blame Luke for it), the community comes together for the funeral of beloved barber and mediator, Pop. And it’s time for some speeches. Lots of ‘em.
This episode is even slower than the previous four, although there’s a good reason for the more sombre tone. The big plot twist is the introduction of a somewhat literal Chekov’s Gun: bullets that can hurt even Luke Cage.

Anyone familiar with the work of Jen and Sylvia Soska knows the identical twin filmmakers owe more than a small debt to the early and mid-career oeuvre of David Cronenberg. Like the acclaimed director, the Soskas are both Canadian natives and specialize in "body horror," the sub-genre exploiting viewers' innate fears of physical disfigurement that was practically invented (or at least taken to a more outré level) by Cronenberg. Over the course of his career, Cronenberg gave us such squeamish classics as 1975's high-rise horror show Shivers, 1983's surreal Videodrome, and the uber-grisly 1986 remake of The Fly. Given these similarities, it's fitting that the Soskas -- arguably best known for their intensely gory body-modification horror film American Mary -- are currently in the process of remaking Cronenberg's 1977 movie Rabid, which starred pornographic film actress Marilyn Chambers as a woman who develops a taste for human blood after undergoing experimental plastic surgery.

Marvel’s Netflix series have been a hit with the fans but they might be upping the ante when it comes to release dates.

We know now that The Punisher has just began shooting and Defenders is now in pre-production to begin shooting in November. There’s more than meets the eye to Netflix’s timely and thought-provoking Marvel series “Luke Cage,” which recently debuted to much fanfare, critical acclaim and maybe even temporary service outage.
Whether you’re one of the dedicated who have already binged all 13 episodes or are slowly savoring each installment, there’s plenty happening on the screen beyond the main action. Some of it may be obvious, such as when a street hawker in the first episode (selling DVDs of The Incident in “The Avengers”) refers to Tony Stark, “the blonde dude with the hammer, the old dude with the shield, the green monster and I don’t mean Fenway.”

Many of the references may not be so blatant though or of the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it variety. Here’s a breakdown of just some of the fun references made that we caught on the first pass.

Our Us chums took a close look at Marvel's Luke Cage trailer looking for bits of Marvel Comics history and clues about the show's future!
After that cool Sdcc teaser, Marvel's Luke Cage Netflix series finally unveiled a full length trailer to give everyone a better idea of what's in store when it arrives in September.
Here it is in case you haven't seen it yet:
Video of Luke Cage - Main Trailer - Only on Netflix September 30 [HD]
Please note, that I'm not going in order or frame by frame to describe stuff that you're seeing. This is mostly in any order that makes sense to me.
Also, the song that plays over roughly the first half of this trailer is "Walk on By" from Isaac Hayes' Hot Buttered Soul album. There is honestly not a better album you could spend the rest of your day listening to.

In September, Marvel’s Luke Cage gets his own show on Netflix. Since the small-screen heroes of the McU have a tendency to overlap, there’s a good chance Iron Fist will make a guest appearance before his own show airs sometime in 2017. Then, once all the players are on the stage, The Defenders will bring it all together with a street-level version of The Avengers in late 2017. Right now, all we know for sure is Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) will make up the team. One can assume other non-hero players, like Rosario Dawson’s Night Nurse, will also be along for the ride. But Marvel and Netflix haven’t confirmed any casting yet. A lack of official announcements can’t keep actors from talking, though. As reported by /Film, Elden Henson allegedly let it slip that he...

The first few details about "Jessica Jones" season two have arrived, with one in particular standing out immediately: Jones herself won't be the sole focus this time around. That's from a spoiler-heavy Nerdist interview with showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, who explains that the first season of Netflix's Marvel show did so well introducing and developing supporting characters (like Hellcat, Nuke and the Night Nurse) that more screentime will likely be spent bringing them to the fore. With spoilers, we take a look at Daredevil season two episode 11, .380...
Please remember to keep spoilers for future episodes out of the comments!
As the show reaches its climax, there’s a definite sense that the plot’s speeding up again after a few slower (though still gripping) episodes. So let’s tackle the various threads in turn.
First, The Hand’s attack on the hospital. A great fight scene, and one with a genuinely unexpected ending as the blood-bank rescues turn out to be either brainwashed, mystically controlled or in on the whole Hand thing. We see evidence that one of the Hand ninjas appears to have been autopsied already in the past, giving us a slight nudge towards considering their claims about being able to grant immortality. And although Claire’s bosses are mad about her actions, they get paid off, forcing her to quit in moral outrage.
