A missed rendez-vous.
18 April 2021
Plot: a posh bourgeois, short of the readies, sees the bayliff knock on the door of his luxury apartment:if it does not pay his debts and his overdues ,he will be evicted .He learns that,if you are one the dole, they can't throw you out :so he is going to find a work and later on, to become an unemployed person;in turns,he becomes a dustman, a metro driver ,you name it .And this once idle playboy falls in love with a girl from a wealthy background whose parents disapprove of her behavior:but she's a feminist and wants to choose her future husband .

The movie suffers from a disjointed screenplay (the wagers) ,the title is a misnomer (the Champs D'Elysées rendez-vous only concerns one scene .). And the invention is in it just to secure a happy end.

The most interesting scenes are the social mixing : Jules Berry ,the refined lazy dandy and Pierre Larquey , the common people and his fat ugly missus ,who turns °romantic when she receives flowers from her hubby's new friend ; the playboy's obese stooge who treats this populace man condescendingly but is eventually put in his place ,quits his snob ways ,and learns slang words.

Director Jacques Houssin was more successful with another comedy "le merle blanc " (1944)
