Eddie DuPriest
- Actor
Eddie was born in Richmond VA and raised in Victoria VA. He started performing at an early age, as his mother, Doris, entered him in talent shows when he was only six-years old. He sang several Elvis Presley songs, accompanied by his mother on the piano. As a second grader, Eddie played the role of Lawrence Welk in the Elementary School musical, while some of his classmates were blowing bubbles behind the band. Great show!
Both Eddie and his sister, Anne, sang in their mother's church choir in the Victoria Methodist church. Music was a constant in the DuPriest household, and, like their mother, Anne is an accomplished pianist. Eddie played the clarinet, oboe, and even the cymbals in the Victoria High School band! A huge fan of soul music in the '60s, Eddie's first live concert was the incomparable Otis Redding!! Possibly the two greatest hours in his life!
During his high school and college years, Eddie was basically a jock, playing basketball and baseball at VHS and Randolph-Macon College. After marrying Mary Frances Wilkinson in 1971, Eddie and Mary moved to Atlanta, where he attended graduate school at Emory University.
Eddie taught English for forty years at The Westminster Schools in Atlanta and loved the classroom experience. Teaching Shakespeare as well as an assortment of contemporary playwrights, Eddie frequently performed for his students and encouraged them to read aloud and perform themselves! Awarded a Westminster sabbatical in the summer of 1991, Eddie attended the Yale School of Drama and loved it! He enjoyed stage acting for the next twenty years, working with some of Atlanta's top Directors.
After retiring from Westminster in 2013, Eddie did voiceover work and eventually enrolled in acting classes at Drama Inc., where he met Atlanta's top acting instructors, Cat Dyer, Jason MacDonald, Claire Bronson, and Scott Poythress! They were/are amazing. While attending classes at Drama Inc., Eddie met Kurt Yue, a terrific actor, and the two of them have become good friends and worked together for years. Kurt is simply the best!
After signing with J Pervis Talent Agency, Eddie began auditioning regularly. It's so exciting to book and be on set with so many incredibly talented people. Safe to say that Eddie's Mom and Dad would be very pleased! Back in the good ole days Eddie sang "All Shook Up" as a second grader, and the good news is that Eddie is still rockin' and rollin' in Atlanta!
