On the eve of Horror Channel’s UK TV premiere of Patchwork, director Tyler MacIntyre reflects on body image issues. twisting audience expections and his admiration for current female genre directors.
Patchwork finally gets its UK TV premiere on Horror Channel. Excited or what?
Relieved actually. It’s been a long time coming. The third screening of the film ever happened at FrightFest in Glasgow and since then I’ve had people asking me when it was going to come out. The UK genre fans are among the most diehard in the world, so I’m very excited to finally have it available for them.
You were in attendance when Patchwork, your directorial feature debut, received its European premiere screening at FrightFest Glasgow 2016. What are your abiding memories?

Podcasts from talent including Love creator Lesley Arfin, Margaret Cho, Glow’s Kimmy Gatewood and The Good Place’s Rebecca Delgado form the inaugural slate for female-focused podcast network Earios.
Earios was set up by former UTA and Wme comedy agent Priyanka Mattoo, who also ran Electric Dynamite with Jack Black, Maria Blasucci, star of HBO’s Family Tree and Amanda Lund, who has appeared on series including Fresh Off The Boat and New Girl.
Last year, the company successfully raised money through a Kickstarter campaign and secured enough to launch 12 shows this year. It has also partnered with podcast company Acast to launch the slate, which will launch three shows at the start of July and will run new shows every couple of weeks.

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by the distributor, The Orchard. **there are a couple of minor spoilers here. Director: Tyler MacIntyre. Writers: Chris Lee Hill and Tyler MacIntyre. Cast: Tory Stolper, Tracey Fairaway, Maria Blasucci, James Phelps and Corey Sorenson. Patchwork has been completed since at least 2015. From director Tyler MacIntyre and writer Chris Lee Hill, the film has recently released through Video-on-demand, via The Orchard. A festival favourite, Patchwork involves a three-in-one deal, in which three women are sewn into one. The results should be horrifying, but they are more laugh worthy. Some of the awkward kissing scenes are laugh out loud funny. Meanwhile, a sub-villain and villain are pushing the action forward. One of the evil wretch's identity is only revealed near the end of the film. Also, the writers take the topic of cosmetic surgery to the point of hyperbole. What would...

Back in 2016, Tyler MacIntyre's Patchwork was showing in Calgary, at the Calgary Underground Film Festival. Since 2016, the film has released through Video-on-demand, today! Patchwork is a dark comedy, in which three women find themselves sewn together. The film stars: Tory Stolper, Tracey Fairaway, Maria Blasucci and James Phelps. Also, the official release artwork and most recent trailer, for Patchwork, are hosted here. For more on the story, three women wake-up after a night out. They have the ultimate hangover. But, things are much worse than they initially realize. Each woman has been sewn to the other, by a mysterious character. Now, they must work together, to escape this lair, while finding a way to seek revenge. The latest promotional material shows the film's scars. The movie poster shows one woman's body, with different patches of skin. Meanwhile, the title bloodies the back, while some of the flesh looks necrotic.

The world of film is obviously as broad and far-reaching as it could be, and no matter how much we might feel that certain films are so good that everyone should like them, people have differing tastes. I might think My Dinner with Andre is easily one of the best films there is, despite the fact that most people can’t finish it. Virtually every list of the best films ever includes Casablanca somewhere close to the top, but I agree with the cast and crew in thinking that it isn’t really anything special. Such is life.
But, if you don’t have Waiting for Guffman, or Best in Show, or both, on your list of favorite movies, I just don’t get you.
Christopher Guest‘s mockumentary films (which also include A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration – which are both good, but not nearly as solid) all include familiar faces,...

While she’ll be seen in comedies both on the indie and studio side this summer (Joshy and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, respectively), Aubrey Plaza will also be featured in a documentary. The Pistol Shrimps follows her all-female basketball team, also made up of Melissa Stern, Maria Blasucci, and more, as they compete in last year’s recreational season. Coming from producer Morgan Spurlock and director Brent Hodge (I Am Chris Farley, A Brony Tale), the first trailers have landed ahead of a release this week.
We said in our review, “As far as sports documentaries about female friendships, there are too few and Pistol Shrimps, as enjoyable as it is, really is exactly what it is — like the league and the podcast it’s something to do. Surely one’s free time can be better spent elsewhere screening a film that’s more profound, but that is not what this is, the same way this rec league is not the Wnba.”
Check out the trailers and poster below.
“The Pistol Shrimps” is the fun new documentary following the 2015 season of the popular all female basketball team called The Pistol Shrimps – made up of actors, comedians and models in La. Comic actress Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation), model Melissa Stern and actress/writer Maria Blasucci (Ghost Ghirls) are part of the ragtag team of trash-talking, hard fouling, wisecracking women who bring a much-needed edge to the game. Off the court, these women are also making it happen as writers, musicians, actors, comedians, moms and wives, who always have time on Tuesday nights for their games. The Pistol Shrimps are truly fearless women who are both ballers on and off the court.
The Pistol Shrimps arrives on SeeSo on June 16th.

The Canadian horror comedy Patchwork is set for its Calgary Premiere. This film, influenced by Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, tears three women apart and puts them back together again. A teaser for the film (hosted below) was released for this feature earlier in the year. The clip's music is soothing, while the images are not. From director Tyler MacIntyre, the film stars: Tory Stolper, Tracey Fairaway, Maria Blasucci and James Phelps. Playing at several upcoming showings, a preview of Patchwork's Calgary release is hosted here. The film calls itself a "throw-back" horror-comedy. Likely influenced by the low-brow comedies of the '80s, three women find themselves sewn to each other, after a wild night of partying. Now, they must work together, in one body, or lose what little remains of themselves. The Calgarian event takes place on April 16th, 2016. Director Tyler MacIntyre will be in attendance and Calgarians should head out to the theatre,...

There are a lot of people within the horror community right now who grew up watching absolutely gonzo insane horror films like Re-animator, Evil Dead 2, and Frankenhooker, which actually came out in 1990 but whatever. In the ever-evolving world of television, the latest frontier for original programming has become the Internet. With Netflix's great success in launching hits like "House of Cards" and "Orange is the New Black," more and more websites are following suit. The latest to launch their slate of original series? Yahoo.

If you -- like a lot of people -- can't see horror movies for fear of having terrifying nightmares, then feast your eyes on Jack Black's latest project, "Ghost Ghirls."
The new Yahoo web series, which debuts its entire first season on Monday (Sept. 9) on Yahoo Screen, is executive produced by Black and co-created by "Drunk History's" Jeremy Konner. The 10-12 minute long episodes star Amanda Lund and Maria Blasucci as bumbling paranormal investigators. The series is a mix of comedy and supernatural happenings ... with an emphasis on the comedy. "There's a good, even mix of science and otherworldly problems," Black tells Zap2it. "It's like in 'Scooby Doo' where oftentimes you pull the mask off the guy and there's just a dude."
But don't expect to see real-world problems behind every case on "Ghost Ghirls." Black promises that there is a hearty mix of supernatural issues as well.

Nine months after it first crossed our radar, Ghost Ghirls has debuted on Yahoo Screen. The twelve episode comedy, produced by Jack Black's Electric Dynamite, stars Amanda Lund and Maria Blasucci as Heidi and Angelica, a pair of hapless paranormal investigators. During a conference call, Black, Lund, and Blasucci discussed their new show, with the Tenacious D star explaining the way he first came across it. "I've been producing for a while--my own stuff that I was in--and I'm always looking for talented people I want to collaborate with. This sort of fell into my lap. I knew Jeremy Konner, the director (editor's note: Konner is best known for co-creating Drunk History). Jeremy fell in love with these girls who were very creative and hilarious. They went and shot the pilot for Ghost Ghirls. He brought in these girls with this pilot they had shot, and I said 'I want in',...

The Anatomy of Superhero Film Music panel
Thursday was a big day for television, with a full day of programming in Ballroom 20 (including Sherlock and the X-Files 20th anniversary panel). Given the craziness of Ballroom 20, I opted for the smaller rooms, starting the day off at a panel called The Anatomy of Superhero Film Music. A group of composers for various superhero projects made up the panel and we went down the line, taking a look at clips from each project, both with and without the music, exploring this contrast, along with the inspiration for the music. The one television project was an excerpt of Bear McCreary’s score for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. We listened to what appears to be a main theme for the upcoming series. Unsurprisingly, given McCreary’s prior work and the superhero focus of the show, it features a mostly orchestral sound, with some...

Ghost Ghirls is a new online comedy series presented by Yahoo!Screen that follows two young female ghostbusters as they solve mysteries of paranormal phenomena. Portrayed by comedians Amanda Lund and Maria Blasucci, the pair emulate Shawn and Gus of Psych more than Sherlock Holmes and Watson as they attempt to convince their clients and local law enforcement of their legitimacy as investigators.
Ghost Ghirls was created by Jeremy Konner, Lund and Blasucci, who also serve as executive producers -- seen above with fellow executive producer Jack Black. Konner, who is best known for his Drunk History series on Funny or Die, also directed Ghost Ghirls.
An exclusive sneak preview of two episodes of Ghost Ghirls was presented at SXSW 2013, featuring hilarious cameo appearances by Dave Grohl, Val Kilmer, Molly Shannon and numerous other celebrities. I thoroughly enjoyed the witty writing and well paced storylines, and look forward to more adventures with the paranormal pair.

It seems Jack Black can’t get enough ghostbuster-based gags. Last week he filled the shoes of Dan Aykroyd at a live reading of the Ghostbusters script organized by director Jason Reitman at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The 12-episode series details the adventures of two ghostbusters played by Amanda Lund and Maria Blasucci. Molly Shannon, Jason Schwartzman, and Black himself will all make cameo appearances on the show, which began production in Los Angeles earlier this month.
