Mary Zilba was born in Ohio. Raised in a musical family with six
siblings, she was a natural, performing in front of her relatives and
schoolmates. She performed as a soloist all through high school and
eventually joined a rock band called Junkyard.
Ohio offered little opportunity for a young singer to become a huge star, so Mary studied and got her bachelor's degree in journalism at the University of Toledo. However, she still yearned for a venue to perform in, and an audience, and she found this when she entered and was ultimately crowned Miss Ohio and competed in the 1986 Miss America Pageant.
She moved to Los Angeles to pursue music full time, working with Grammy winning producer Ian Prince to finally release her self-titled debut album in 1998. In 1999, her follow up album proved to be a great success. 'Out Of The Blue', a highly praised album, which produced three Top 40 singles, including the hit "See You Again" and a video in heavy rotation on muchmusic. She has been on the Canadian charts with heavy hitting performers and stood on her own, and in 2002 she released her third album, her best yet "Put Your Arms Around Me" from EMI Records with the first single "Give It Up" already charting across Canada. She still acts when she has the opportunity.
