Maris Jansons was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1950. His
parents immigrated there after World War II, from Latvia. Father;
Harijs Jansons, Mother; Velga Jansons. After the birth of their second
child, they moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Maris has 3 younger
siblings. Maris studied Journalism at Western University, but found a
love for photography. He went to graduate school at Columbia University
in New York, studying photography and film. He married Laurie Leaver, a
nurse, and they have two children together.
