The streamer has unveiled trailer and a slew of images promoting the show from Joe Barton, while revealing a premiere date of December 5.

Black Doves, which also stars Sarah Lancashire, is set against the backdrop of London at Christmas. It follows Helen Webb (Knightley), a quick-witted, down-to-earth, dedicated wife and mother — and professional spy. For 10 years, she’s been passing on her politician husband’s secrets to the shadowy organization she works for: the Black Doves. When her secret lover Jason (Andrew Koji) is assassinated, her spymaster, the enigmatic Reed (Lancashire), calls in Helen’s old friend Sam (Whishaw) to keep her safe.

Andrew Buchan (Carnival Row), Adeel Akhtar (Fool Me Once), Tracey Ullman (The Tracey Ullman Show), Finn Bennett (True Detective: Night Country) and Luther Ford (The Crown), Koji (Warrior), Kathryn Hunter, Sam Troughton, Ella Lily Hyland, Adam Silver Ken Nwosu (Look the Other Way and Run), Gabrielle Creevy and Omari Douglas also star.

The show is the latest splashy offering from Netflix UK, which has made a slew of hits this year including Baby Reindeer and The Gentlemen. It is being co-produced by Sister, which has just seen its previous Netflix show, Kaos, axed after one season. Barton’s outfit Noisy Bear is co-producing.

EPs for Black Doves are Knightley, Barton, Jane Featherstone and Chris Fry. Directors are Alex Gabassi (The Crown) and Lisa Gunning (The Power). Series producer is Harry Munday.

Keira Knightley is out for blood as she avenges the murder of her secret lover in Netflix’s upcoming thriller series, “Black Doves.”

The trailer for “Black Doves,” which debuts Dec. 5, introduces Knightley as Helen Webb, a dedicated wife and mother with a secret gig as a spy, where she passes on confidential information from her husband’s political work to an organization called the Black Doves. All is status quo until her spymaster, Reed (Sarah Lancashire) delivers the news that her lover, Jason (Andrew Koji), was assassinated.

“Was I the reason he was murdered, was I the target?” Knightley’s Helen asked Reed in the trailer, to which Reed responds, “You might’ve compromised yourself, and now it’s time to go to work.”

Keira Knightley is making her Black Doves debut.

The Netflix spy thriller was first announced back in April 2023 as a U.K. commission, from in-demand writer Joe Barton and production company Sister (Chernobyl, The Power). Netflix, earlier during the 2024 Edinburgh TV Festival, announced it had already ordered a second season of Black Doves ahead of the first season’s debut.

Now, with the first look image (above) and teaser (below), Black Doves is taking shape, as Knightley plays a British agent whose cover is threatened when her secret lover is assassinated, and she goes looking for revenge.

British producer Peter Collins, known for his work with Rush and Queensrÿche, has died at the age of 73.

Collins was perhaps best known for his production credits on four Rush albums in the 1980s and ’90s: Power Windows (1985), Hold Your Fire (1987), Counterparts (1993), and Test for Echo (1996).

He also notably produced Queensrÿche’s biggest albums — 1988’s Operation: Mindcrime and 1990’s Empire — as well as Alice Cooper’s 1991 LP Hey Stoopid, Suicidal Tendencies’ The Art of Rebellion (1992), and Bon Jovi’s These Days (1995).

Outside of metal and hard rock, Collins was behind the boards on numerous hits throughout the 1980s by the likes of Nik Kershaw, Musical Youth, Tracey Ullman, Alvin Stardust, and Gary Moore.

Rush’s Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, as well as the band’s official account, paid tribute to the late producer on social media.

Playing a fictionalized version of himself, David is again vying for the lead comedy actor category. As many fans predicted, the Curb Your Enthusiasm series finale concluded just like the much-maligned Seinfeld finale, with Larry David sent to jail for (petty) crimes against humanity. Granted, it wasn’t exactly like David-penned Seinfeld finale as, on Curb, Jerry Seinfeld’s chance encounter with a Joe Pesci lookalike leads to a jury nullification and mistrial, setting our cranky hero free once again.

Before that last minute Deus Ex Jerry, however, Curb Your Enthusiasm gets to indulge in the best part of the Seinfeld ending of yore by having many, many guest stars and other faces from the show’s past make appearances. Larry David made sure to make a few more enemies before bidding farewell to “Curb Your Enthusiasm” forever on Sunday night. The long-running comedy series officially ended with its 12th season this past weekend, marking the end of an era for the 76 year-old comedian whose HBO show was almost as, if not more, beloved as his legacy-making “Seinfeld.”

Season 12 premiered on Max at the beginning of February, ending with its 10th and final episode on Sunday, Apr. 7. The entire series, spanning Season 1 through Season 12, is now available to stream on Max with plans starting at $9.99/Month.

The logline for the premiere episode, titled “Atlanta,” states that “Larry heads to Georgia to appear at the birthday party of a prominent businessman, while Leon takes the opportunity to visit his Auntie Rae.

After 12 seasons, Larry David officially signed off as Larry David on his HBO comedy. And as predicted, he used his time on Seinfeld to help tie up loose ends on Curb.

The action began with Larry heading back to Atlanta to face charges for handing out water at a polling place at the start of the season. Traveling with him is Jeff (Jeff Garlin), Susie (Susie Essman) and his longtime roomie Leon (D.B. Smoove), who declared he was going to catch up on old episodes of Seinfeld during the flight.

“You never told me it was a show about weekly ass,” he rants to Larry.

While driving into the city, Larry encounters an irate, bird-flipping driver named Cynthia (Allison Janney), who ends up being the latest squeeze of Richard. Naturally, Cynthia denies later that she was the one who tussled with Larry on the freeway.

In court, the prosecutor (Greg Kinnear) tries to bolster his case that Larry both violated the Election Integrity Act and is a general menace to society by questioning several antagonists from the comedian’s past: Mocha Joe (Saverio Guerra), the country club’s Tackahashi (Dana Lee) and the real Lt. Alexander Vindman, who “won’t tolerate corruption from Trump, Putin or Larry David.” Bruce Springsteen returned, too, as did Tracey Ullman.

The Curb flashbacks and stars just kept coming. Ted Danson showed up in Atlanta for the trial, as did Jerry Seinfeld (as himself), Dean Morris (as the judge) and Sharlto Copley (as Michael Fouchay).

Despite flashing a heart sign to the jury, Larry didn’t make a good witness for himself. The jury, naturally, convicts Larry.

“You have a history of doing the same thing wrong, over and over,” says the judge, who sentences Larry to a year in prison.

The comedian ends up in a cell that’s not unlike the one that Jerry, George, Kramer and Elaine were in during the polarizing, 1998 series finale of Seinfeld. But that’s not where this comedy ends: the real Jerry shows up to tell Larry that he’s a free man because one of the jurors broke sequester. The charges were thrown out!

“It’s over,” says Jerry, who gestures to the jail cell. “You don’t want to end up like this. Nobody wants to see it. Trust me.”

As the two walk out of the jail, Larry exclaims, “This is how we should have ended the [Seinfeld] finale!”

Replies Jerry, “How did we not think of that?”...

With Larry David, even the simple act of sitting down can raise an issue.

“This is a constant problem for me,” David said, after taking his seat in a wide, plush, yellow chair at HBO’s Manhattan screening room for a conversation on the lifespan and legacy of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” “I’m a sloucher.”

Blaming the chair’s accommodating tilt, David slouched, smiled, and cordially accepted his fate. He’s a sloucher. He slouches. That’s who he is, and you know what? People love him for it.

Even when they don’t — like, say, for writing the now-infamous “Seinfeld” finale — David doesn’t let it get to him. When asked by an audience member whether the upcoming “Curb Your Enthusiasm” finale would serve as “redemption” for the last episode of “Seinfeld,” David scoffed and said:

“Yeah, like I care.”

MSNBC chief legal correspondent Ari Melber, who moderated the festivities hosted by HBO and Tribeca Enterprises, seemingly surprised the comedian with an AI-automated analysis of David’s work, which noted that his “Jewish humor” as rooted in “self deprecation, obsessive preoccupation with the minutiae of daily life.”

As “Curb Your Enthusiasm” prepares to bid farewell after a 24-year run and 12 seasons on HBO, star J.B. Smoove argues there’s one mystery left unsolved that he’d love to see get the spin-off treatment: What was Leon Black up to before he met Larry David?

From Joe Barton, Black Doves stars Knightley and Whishaw as two spies on a mission in London at Christmas, working for a shadowy organization led by Sarah Lancashire. They set off to investigate who killed Jason and why, leading them to uncover a vast, interconnected conspiracy linking the murky London underworld to a looming geopolitical crisis.

Trailer was unveiled two weeks ago at Netflix’s See What’s Next event in London, which featured the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Billie Piper and Jack thorne.

Ethan Coen‘s second movie without Joel — his first was the documentary “Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble in Mind,” which is streaming exclusively on Prime Video — has posted modest box-office returns, but the breezy road comedy seems destined for cult-favorite status. Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan play friends who get caught up in a band of maladroit criminals during a road trip down South. Co-written with Tricia Cooke, who edited “The Big Lebowski” and other Coen-brother movies, “Drive-Away Dolls” also features Beanie Feldstein, Pedro Pascal, Matt Damon, and newly minted Oscar nominee Colman Domingo. Curb Your Enthusiasm‘s Jeff Schaffer knows that Richard Lewis will be remembered for being funny. But he wants fans of the comedian and actor, who died last month at age 76, to also know one thing.

“The thing about Richard is that everyone knows how funny he was,” the executive producer told The Hollywood Reporter. “But I want people to know also that he was the sweetest, kindest man. Everyone loved him. He loved being on the show. He will be missed.”

Schaffer and Curb‘s creator-star Larry David filmed with Lewis three weeks before he passed away. One result from the dual 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes was that the 12th and final season of the HBO improv comedy still had a few scenes to shoot when production resumed. Before the HBO tune-in even popped up, a title card honoring Lewis appeared, reading, “In Memory of Richard Lewis, 1947 – 2024.” It also included an image of Lewis who also happened to appear in the episode. Titled, “Fish Stuck,” the installment featured Lewis attending AA meetings that Larry’s girlfriend Irma (Tracey Ullman) happened to be attending. On the latest Curb Your Enthusiasm episode, Larry David (the character) is accused of being the anonymous writer of a letter griping about his Los Angeles country club. The letter, which is posted to the locker room bulletin board, is signed “Disgruntled” and grabs the attention of the club’s owner, Mr. Takahashi (Dana Lee), who happens to have a long-standing feud with Larry.

It makes sense that Larry would be assumed to be the so-called Disgruntled member. In this episode — the fourth in the final season, titled “Disgruntled” — Larry, who is enjoying newfound fame as a political national hero after his premiere episode visit to Georgia, gets under the skin of several members of the club’s staff when he complains about breakfast not being served after 11 a.m., brings his own bread and his own eggs to the kitchen, and then accuses the chef of not using his home-brought eggs.

Larry David has found another adversary.

The Curb Your Enthusiasm creator and star gets into it with Hymnson Chan in a two-episode arc.

Chan, whose character works in a Chinese restaurant, appears in the fifth and sixth episode of the final season of the HBO comedy.

Chan won a SAG Awards for his stunt work in Avengers: Endgame and has appeared in series such as I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, Grey’s Anatomy, Kidding, Shameless, Key & Peele and Jane The Virgin. He also recurred in Syfy’s Underlying.

Chan is David’s latest nemesis in the final season of Curb; Sharlto Copley played Michael Fouchay, a South African businessman who questions David’s cordiality, and Coda’s Troy Kotsur plays himself who gets into an argument on the golf course with Larry.

The Season 12 premiere of Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” totaled 1 million cross-platform viewers on Max and HBO, TheWrap has learned.

The figure marks a 26% increase compared to the audience of 788,000 and 789,000 viewers who tuned in for the Season 11 premiere and finale, respectively. Season 11 ultimately averaged 4.3 million viewers per episode across platforms.

The comedy series was competing for eyeballs on Sunday with music’s biggest night — The 66th annual Grammy Awards — which scored 16.9 million viewers on CBS, according to Nielsen fast national and Out of Home ratings data. That’s up 34% from the 12.4 million viewers brought in by last year’s ceremony, which at the time marked the Grammys’ biggest audience since 2020.
