A semi-documentary satire that follows the life of the offbeat pop singer Markku Suominen on tour of the Finnish countryside, while Markku's girlfriend Anja waits patiently at home.

June 1944. The attention of the world is focused on Normandy, but the change of the tide can be felt in Finland also. Rumours of preparations of a massive Soviet attack in the Karelian region are heard everywhere. In the Finnish HQ many officers know the attack is coming, but Marshal Mannerheim is not even informed of the most frightening news. The old marshal is turning 77, but the Soviet Union has an unpleasant gift for him. The army is not all prepared, but who is guilty, and to whom belongs the honor?

Teenager Erik returns from Paris to Finland in a rowboat and is accosted by a gang of youths in the countryside. He walks to Helsinki, returns to his parents' home and his old high school filled with angry radical teens who, typically for the era, consider the teacher-imposed discipline as another form of capitalist imperialism. Almost reluctantly Erik drifts together with Annika, a girl from a wealthy family, and starts experimenting with sex and marijuana. In the same nonchalant manner Erik gets involved in demonstrations and school politics which escalate into a violent school strike leading to police intervention and heavy sanctions. The dramatic plot is frequently interrupted by absurd comic relief.

Valtteri and Sepe, two ordinary white-collar guys from southern Finland drive up north to implement a plan they've been hatching for months. Because they simply love the taste of lamb, baked "robber-style" in a hole dug under a campfire, they forge their car's number plates and other important documents just to be able to poach sheep grazing on the roadside without getting caught. Lots of man talk around the campfire, aided by lots of booze. The summer may be wet, but the vodka is definitely dry.

A young woman has an intense affair with a womanizing reindeer herdsman.

Sanna, a middle-aged widow, has moved from Finland to Sweden with her two children. She starts a correspondence with doctor Peter Mackus, who is married and with two children. Their meeting leads to an awkward love affair.

A middle-aged man becomes deeply involved with the affairs and criminal connections of a mysterious girl.

Krokelby in the 1920s. Sakris Kukkelman is a crippled, Nietzsche reading village idiot who believes himself to be a romantic hero.

Construction worker Urho Suomalainen, his factory-worker wife Sirkka, and their two school-age children dream about getting away from their cramped rental apartment and moving to a house of their own. Urho decides to build one from scratch, starting from hauling trees from the forest to the sawmill. As the building progresses, a serious fault is discovered in its foundations. The family also has problems with their mortgage. Urho develops pneumonia and passes away before he sees his house completed. At his grave, a fellow worker gives a powerful speech praising socialism.

Sequel / follow up to 'Yösyttö' ['Man and a baby', although literally 'Nightfeeding'], in which abandoned, single parent, Antti, with his son, now takes on a daughter, too: of the girl (after an accident to her) he's always truly fancied.
