She's been here before and wasn't nervous until she lost the track she was on and a microburst sent her running for cover. When it's all over, she has no idea where she is or how to get back to her car.
With nothing or eat or drink and being injured, she hallucinates a young woman who tells her to 'find the girl'. Four days later she is rescued by a group with search and rescue dogs and taken to the hospital.
Recuperating at home, her dreams are less than peaceful ... she sees the vision from the woods, again begging her to find the girl.
With her new friends, she tackles the woods again ... looking for young woman. It is somehow a miracle, but they do find a body.
Is this 'the girl'? Who murdered this young woman and abandoned her in a place where she would not be found easily? Against the advice of her forest ranger boyfriend, she becomes determined to solve this mystery.
But as she gets closer to answers, the killer is getting closer to her.
This book has a lot of engaging elements to it. I loved the search and rescue dogs, and learning a little about their training. There's love and loss and loyalty and redemption and persevering when all hope is gone. I didn't find it particularly suspenseful, but rather more mysterious.
The characters are solid ... several suspects to pick from. I'm usually fairly good at picking out the bad guy .... but not with the clever writing of this author. It's a fast read with bursts of action to keep the reader's attention.
Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this entertaining book. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own. ...more
