This Valley of Tears: A Comprehensive Study on the Origins, Meaning & Value of Suffering

Rate this book
The title "This Valley of Tears" comes from the prayer Salve Regina and indicates the suffering we must all endure while living on this planet as the "poor banished children of Eve."
This book describes the source of our suffering, that suffering has a meaning and has been made valuable.
Our tendency is to run from pain and suffering. The Military, Firefighters, Police Officers, Search and Rescue Professionals, and Athletes all are trained in endurance to pain and suffering and because of this run toward the pain rather than away from it. Why? Because they endure whatever it takes for a greater good which more than often means saving the lives of the innocent. Other than athletes the professions stated above lay their lives on the line, every day for the greater good. It is this way also in the spiritual life which every human being is called to develop.
This book addresses the universal questions about suffering and pain in this world. It is written from a traditional Apostolic and Catholic perspective but is also written for the edification and inspiration of all people of good will.

A.J. West was a particularly shy boy at school, hiding away from other children with only his books for friends. Thus, he discovered the magic of ink on paper and fell in love with gothic tales of fear and fun, danger and mystery. A keen people-watcher and incorrigible eavesdropper, he grew up to study English Literature at university, before embarking on an award-winning career as a television and radio journalist. Later, he worked in the LGBTQ+ charity sector before leaving to pursue his writing career. He is married to Nicholas Robinson who gained fame as William Beech in BAFTA award winning Goodnight Mr Tom.
