The Court of Thorns and Wings

Rate this book
He claimed her, not for love, but for vengeance.
Yet his enemies had other plans.

After Tavish, the ruthless Unseelie King, stole Lira and brought her to his kingdom, he fully intended to drain her royal Seelie blood to free his people and reclaim his rightful lands.

When Lira teetered on the edge of death, something inside him snapped and altered his plans.

Once he succumbed to their fated mate bond, her death was no longer an option, and he stopped fighting the inevitable pull, knowing this very decision could incite his people to rebel against him.

Though he’s determined to find another way to free his people while keeping Lira at his side, the Seelie attack, taking Lira from him.

She’s returned to Seelie land where her parents intend to hand her over to the dragon prince—the man they betrothed her to years ago.

Everything stacks against them being together, but Tavish refuses to accept defeat.

Lira is his… and no one else's. And he’ll kill anyone who gets in his way.

The Court of Thorns and Wings is a slow-burn, royal fae romantasy that includes betrayal, morally gray characters, enemies-to-lovers, villain gets the girl, political intrigue, who did this to you, and touch her and unalive. One-click this story today.

Reading has always been one of my favorite hobbies, even as a little girl. When I was a toddler, my parents would read stories to me over and over. I would hear them so often that I had the books memorized and could recite the story word by word.

My favorite genres are fantasy, paranormal, and contemporary romance. So of course that's what I'm inclined to write.

I have a husband, two young daughters, and a mini Australian Shepherd. I've lived in Tennessee the majority of my life and love the state.

I'm extremely addicted to caffeine and enjoy drinking coffee and lattes.

I am absolutely obsessed with Tavish and Lira and if they don’t kill Eldrin I will.

Also, I knew from the first interaction between Pyralis and Eiric that there would be something between them. Him or Finnian

Picking up where the last book left off, Lira has been badly injured and on the brink of death. Tavish has realized he was a fool to deny his fated mate but he won’t make that mistake again. And lucky for him because of Lira’s rare healing ability she is alive. Alive enough for the two of them reconcile and figure out what to do next. But things get complicated quick when Lira is taken by the Seelie to her parents. And Tavish and Finnian follow to save her and get captured. Now they all must be smart and figure out how to escape. With Lira’s parents determined to make Lira obey them and follow through on their promise to betroth her to the dragon prince, Lira is trying to play along against all frustrations. She was a kid when they sent her away and she is no longer that obedient daughter. She will fight for those she loves with everything she has. Lot goes down in this book! And of course an epic cliffhanger that has me itching for the next book. I loved how far Lira and Tavish have come. Those two have finally figured out what they are to one another and have come so far. But the Unseelie and Seelie are making things harder on everyone. Peace is far away and they still have so many enemies and things to figure out. Definitely looking forward to seeing how everything plays out and these two get the happily ever after they deserve!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Court of Thorns and Wings is the second book in the series and Jen has done a great job. Lira has gotten feisty and I like it. I got the groveling from Tavish that was needed after all the crap he's pulled. He's gotten more swoon-worthy, while also going all "touch her and die." It was the best. Of course, Finnian was by their side. The playful fae brings humor and lightheartedness to the series, he's my favorite side character, along with Nightbane. I also enjoyed getting to know Lira's Earth family as well. Seeing their dynamic versus the bio-parents was eye-opening that's for sure.

The differences between the Unseelie and the Seelie aren't as drastically different as I had thought. The entire realm has a bad attitude that's for sure. There's so much animosity between everyone so the tension is always high. There is no such thing as allies, they're all frenemies. I just kept waiting for the next bad thing cause I knew it was coming. You'd think it was all Eldrin (ugh, that guy), but no, he's just another on a long list of problems. Lira and Tavish have the odds stacked against them. Once again the ending finds Lira in a precious situation I can't imagine how Jen will wrap this up but I'm ready.

Devoured this book in one day!

Series just getting better and better!

Loved the growth of FMC and MMC and just all out love between them. Some world building going on this book to include both the Seelie lands and Dragons.

I like the almost “conditional” found family coming from this book. Like, all the characters are becoming sort of a family but still resistant to a sense, which I kind of like. It keeps it building into the 3rd book.

The Dragon Prince…..I am so intrigued by him. I am sort of hoping for him to join the team vs being the enemy. Feel like there’s a lot more to him than the obvious hot and gorgeous rival prince.

Ended on yet another cliffhanger but glad the next book comes out in only a month! Can’t wait to see where the final book takes us!

5⭐️
Spice level: 2.5🌶️ (a couple different scenes but they don’t last too long, but all are very satisfying)

Barely 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

AND HE’S A VIRGIN ALSO?!?!? A hott, sexy, beautiful FAE KING is a virgin at the age of 26/ 27. 🙄

I can’t suffer through the rest of this cheesiness. 🧀

It’s the same story and action regurgitated from book 1. I don’t even care about what is happening. The characters have ZERO depth.

Book 3 is a no for me. I won’t even remember that I read 2/3 of this story by the time the book is out next month. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dnf 20%

Maybe I’m petty and hold grudges but fmc forgave MMC soooo fast. Like not a single negative thought towards him after he basically ensured she’d be brutally beaten and basically killed.

I get their fated. But I’m sorry I cannot stand the cheesy make up and professing their love immediately after something brutal happens to her.

I’m done.

Spice was alright, happens pretty quick after he apologizes

TAVISH AND LIRA!!! Oh my!!! This book started right where book one left off. Seriously so good! We get to see the love that Tavish and Lira have for each other (they FINALLY admit it to each other…you’ll see!) Just like book 1 this one ends in the motherload of cliffhangers! The story has just gotten better and better. We get more info on a few of the characters, and I can’t wait to see what unfolds for them. Can’t wait to see what happens in Tavish and Liras last book!

This was easily consumable because the plot really never took a breath. However, because the plot never stops moving there is no character development. It is possible to do fated mates really well but this is not it. The first book had trials and I'm a sucker for that trope so I didn't really like this one as much. It felt very repetitive.

As Travis sat by Lira on their bed her heart beat slower and slower, until it beat no more…
He was devastated, if he hadn’t taken her from Earth, if he hadn’t allowed Eldrin to push him into placing her in the gauntlet arena, not even just once but three times. He had been the one to threaten her with death, caused her pain, and now he watched her die before his eyes, his mate, the woman he couldn’t live without. He had ruled his court with fear. But death feared no man.
So, when he first felt the warmth within himself, he didn’t realize what it meant. Then Finnian called to him to look at Lira. Her fingers had moved. Slowly, so slowly and softly he could barely hear it, the beating of her heart.
They would complete the mating bond, but their journey of troubles had just begun. With her magic awakening, the Seelie would soon know that Lira was in Ardanos and not on Earth. They would come for her. Eldrin had escaped his guard and was on the run. He had the means to slip into the Seelie realm. They had to stop him. Intent on finding Eldrin, in the blink of an eye two Seelie guards incapacitated both Lira and Travis. One carried Lira away, the other left Travis bleeding out, sure he would die. Brought to the castle, something strange was happening, he had started to heal even as he was being stitched where the knife had pierced his throat.
Healed Travis and Finnian set out to find Lira but were caught at the veil by the Seelie and taken to the dungeon. As Lira awoke, she easily recognized the room as her own bedroom from her childhood. And standing there were her parents’ and sister from Earth and her biological parents. She takes the situation in quickly. She had been hidden on Earth but not with humans, they were Seelie disguised as humans. She wanted answers but first she must tell her parents of the bond between her and Travis to stop the harm they were causing his people.
Lira is anxious to explain why she had been with the Unseelie, as well as the fact that they were fated mates. Her parents wouldn’t hear of it. So, when Lira learns of Unseelie prisoners being taken to the dungeon she quickly follows to see who they have captured. Seeing Travis and Finnian she must step between her father’s raised sword and rage to prevent him from harming Travis. Now she is a suspect as well, disobedient of the King in front of her people and will be confined to her room to stop her from aiding the prisoners. Her parents demand utter subjugation from their daughter and will harm the one she loves to get it. They don’t understand that by living on Earth for so long she has learned to feel compassion for others and has come to understand the need for compromise. Together she and Travis will search for solutions that can benefit both the Seelie and Unseelie.
Why is the dragon prince, her parents had promised her to so many years ago, here now? She must find a way to free all of them before she is unwillingly married to the beast. But how can they escape?
There is a lot of misunderstandings, pain, death, villains and lies, those who are blind to truth and will not listen and many caught in the middle. The romantic connection is strong and spicy. While there aren’t an abundance of answers lying thick on the ground, at the moment either. “The King of Frost and Shadows” came first, now it continues with “The Court of Thorns and Winds” not a tale you want to miss, while there is more yet to uncover.
Grab a comfortable spot to sit, a warm drink or something a bit stronger and get ready to settle as the story unfolds with a cliffhanger last page. Looking forward to more of how it all began and how it can be resolved. I highly recommend this fantastical tale.

good

I really like these books, but sometimes I feel like Tavish and Lira are a couple of horny teenagers not people that are fighting for their lives. Especially since they seem to think that they have to have sex in the most stupid places such as a dungeon cell because they can’t hold their lust back until a safer time. These two cannot seem to catch a break. In the first book Lira was kidnapped from earth by Tavish and now she’s being kidnapped from his lands back to her parents lands. In this book, Lira learns a lot more about how she ended up on earth and more about her parents and adoptive parents. She also learns more about Eiric. Not only does Lira have to try to get away from her parents to be with her mate, but she also has to try to stay away from the dragon Prince, who also believes that she is supposed to marry him. during all this, Tavish needs to kill.Eldrin and establish his hold over his kingdom. The other thing that irritates me in this book is that it seems like every time the group is fighting for their lives. Something stupid distracts them, and they end up in a bad situation. For example, Tavish is in a fight for his life, but yet as soon as Lira gets any kind of owy he gets distracted and almost killed. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

Things are heating up, and the action is just getting started. We start off right after the end of book 1 and the end of the gauntlet. Lira has been brought back to Tavish's room in an attempt to save her life from her injuries. When suddenly Lira, in fact, does die, only to come back to life. The fated mate bond might be playing a role in this, but they haven't fully sealed the bond. Tavish is beside himself and doesn't know what to think. He only knows that he's been controlled by revenge for far too long and out for blood, Eldrins blood to be exact. Eldrin is a sleazy piece of work, and I'd like to take out revenge against him, too. We know Eldrin has a ton of secrets, but we have no idea how deep they truly go. How much hatred he has for Tavish. He's been scheming since before their kind were banished to the island they dwell upon. Lira and Tavish and their few trusted friends are pushed to their limits when Eldrin tries to take control of what is not his. Will Eldrin come out on top, or will Tavish, Lira, and those loyal to the rightful heir? Only time will tell because the Prince of Dragons has made himself known.

UMMM EXCUSEEE MEEE

When I tell you I read this book in a day, I flew through it!!! I was hooked form the first book of this series and this just solidified my love for it! This book was everything that a second book needs to be! We had the continuation of the turmoil with new turmoil added, new political opponents, expansion of the world, deeper understanding of some elements, new questions raised, continuation of the characters we love plus some new added ones as bonus, character development, every box was checked that needs to be checked in a trilogy for me!! I believe that Jen L Grey is a phenomenal author and has a natural raw talent for writing stories that the reader is sucked in to. I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book. If I didn't say this enough about the first book... you need to read this book asap!!! The book has all of our favorite tropes but in a fresh new way!!! Enemies to lovers, morally grey men, comedic relief character, seelie/unseelie, elemental magic, dark magic, dragons, political turmoil, touch her you die.

So, I just finished this book and… ahmmm. I’m a little disappointed. Actually, scratch that—I’m a lot disappointed. I’m genuinely confused because I really loved the first one, but this? This did not live up to it at all. I wasn’t asking for miracles or unicorns, just a decent plot, a surprising twist, and some good romance. Well, I got the romance, but the other two? M.I.A.

And don’t even get me started on Travish. Why is he so weak? He’s supposed to be this powerful Unseelie King, but the entire book he’s either getting stabbed, almost dying, captured, tortured, captured again—it’s like a highlight reel of “how many ways can this guy fail?” I’m honestly face-palming over here. At this point, he’s spent more time in chains than ruling a kingdom.

On the plus side, Lira finally got her powers back, so she’s no longer the magical deadweight. She even did some of the saving! About time, right?

Will I read the next book? Eh, maybe? Will I recommend this one? Honestly, it’s a hard pass from me—but hey, if you like watching a kings ongoing misfortunes, go for it!

Fantastic 2nd book in this series!!

Wow, I really loved the first book, and this one was fantastic too. It kicks off right where the 1st one ended after the Gauntlet, and Tavish thinks that Lira is dead. But thankfully somehow her healing ability kickstarted her heart and she survived. He tells her how much he is sorry and that he loves her, and they finish the bond (swoon…)

But when Eldrin escapes his prison, they go in search for them, but the Seelie disguise themselves as guards from the Unseelie court and capture Lira and nearly kill Tavish. He and Finnian head to the Seelie lands to get her back and are of course captured. Lira starts remembering more and more about her past – especially when her Earth parents and sister are also there and were Seelie warriors charged to protect her on Earth. But when she tries to explain to her parents about her bond with Tavish, they dismiss it saying that she is bound to wed the dragon prince.

There is soooo much that happens in this book, and the ending is a doozy of a cliffhanger. I cant wait to see what happens next.

The ending! Oh how can we be left like that?! I know Im not the only one wishing for book 3 right this second! Oh man! So good!

This Fantasy Romance is Book 2 in the Fated to Darkness Trilogy. The romance in the book is intense, romantic and even remorseful due to events that happened in book 1. The book is spicy, with spicy scenes that are fairly descriptive. While the scenes arent overly long, they are frequent. The book moves at a steady pace picking up where book 1 left off, with Tavish dealing with the Consequences of his choices concerning Lira. Liras close call with death is only the beginning of her problems with the seelie court entering back in her life, especially being mate bonded to the enemy. This book is exciting, spicy, romantic, and even heart wrenching at some points. Everything you could want from an adult romantasy in one book.

“You are stuck with me forever, sprite.”

Spice: 🌶️🌶️

The gauntlet has ended and so has Tavish’s ways of avoiding the truth, Lira is his fated mate. He will go to the ends of time to ensure she is protected and cared for and in return she will do the same for him. Just a slight problem. Her biological parents know she’s back and have kidnapped her from Tavish so she can continue on to marry the dragon prince.

I can’t even begin to explain how excited I was about this book!!! I held off reading it because I was already half through another book but when I saw my friends review I just NEEDED to start reading it asap. Let me tell you it did not disappoint!!! Lira and Tavish have easily become a favorite of mine and I want nothing more for them to get their happy ending. Also, @authorjenlgrey how the heck am I suppose to wait for the next novel with an ending like that?!?!?!

I am loving this series. Once again it’s action packed and I swear the ending of each chapter made it so I had to keep reading just to find out what happens next. I couldn’t stop.

Tavish, when I thought I couldn’t love him anymore he shows
just how far he’ll go for the ones he loves. A morally grey man who treats his mate like a queen…. yes please!

“If I have to burn this realm down to keep you safe, that’s what I’ll do. I will do anything for you.” 🔥

Lira is still strong and fiercer than ever. She stands up for herself and what is right regardless of the consequences. Couldn’t ask for a better FMC.

Finnian still keeps me laughing and I love the big sis protectiveness Eiric has for Lira.

The ending…… cmon!!! October can’t come fast enough! I need the next book now.

Ready for book 3

I love Jen L Grey's work and her Fated To The Darkness books are great!! I always love her world building and these books keep u wanting more, the suspense is a killer. Tavish and Lyria were raised in to different worlds Fairy and Earth. Both destined to rule with everything and everyone fighting against them except love. Lyria is learning who she is and who she used to be. Her being a strong fae seelie princess has not changed her human empathy and compassion and I love that about her. Tavish is the king if the unseelie and loves her with a fierce passion,he is growing and changing for the better, still has some groveling to do to a fae hellhound, Can their love untie the fae, survive the dragons and deceiving family??? COME ON BOOK 3!!

If Lira and Tavish bothered to pull their heads out of their asses and focus on literally anything but each other, half the terrible things that happened to them wouldn't have happened. I swear the two of them are like dumb and dumber.

Also, if I had to read another mother effing scene where the faeries are confused by Earth slang, my eyes were going to be permanently stuck in the back of my head from all the rolling I did.

The world is very interesting and I really do want to see how this wraps up. There's just some writing quirks I find really annoying. Not annoying enough for me to dnf, because again, I really do find the world and court politics interesting. Lira and Tavish are just so damn annoying.

Yet another brilliant read by Jen L Grey. This story follows on from the first book of the Fated To Darkness series (where it left me sad until the release of this book!). I love Tavish's and Lira's story and seeing how each character develops through the second book of the series is really enjoyable. I love each and every one of the main characters - Tavish, Lira, Eiric, Finnian, Caelan, Nightbane, Lorne - even Lira's Earth parents! Another top 5* read for me! Would definitely recommend the series to those who want to read more fated enemies-to-lovers story within a fantasy setting. Now I am sad until the final installment comes out in October.

Basic prose

While I was invested in Lira and Tavish’s ending, I’m getting less so by the minute. This second instalment contains basic prose that spells out what’s happening as if to a toddler. The dialogue is boring and predictable. The relationships haven’t really moved on since the first book. And the new characters, including the return of her Earth family, contain no depth or interest. There’s no grit and you feel no threat coming off the page. It makes for a rather lukewarm telling of conflict between the seelie, unseelie and dragons with Lira a confusing pawn in the middle.

I received an ARC of this book and was so exited to finally have an answer to the cliffhanger from book 1! This book picks up right from where book 1 ended. It has a lot of action and the steam picks up. I am still as obsessed with Tavish as I was in book 1. I feel like this was a great sequel. The only reason I didn’t rate it 5 stars was because of some of the predictability and I struggled with some of the repetitiveness in dialogue. Overall, I would recommend this book and will be reading book 3.

Man I really wanted to love this book more! Still giving it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ because I do love Tavish and Lira but it just seemed so much more juvenile in this book. The fated mates trope is one of my favorites when done right and I just feel like there was way too much emphasis on that in this one. I might read the 3rd book when it comes out in October to see what happens but I was looking forward to more character development with everyone and we just didn’t see that! Hopefully the next one is redemptive.

HOLY SMOKES! THIS BOOK DOES NOT DISAPPOINT. The 2nd book in this series starts off where book ended. Tavish and Lira are on the adventure to find Eldrin and live their live together. On this adventure, anything that could go wrong does. The found family, the love written, anxiety through the adventure was just EXCELLENT. The banter between characters was top notch and the spice hit just right. THE CLIFF HANGER HAS ME REELING for book 3. This book surpassed the first book in my eyes. LOVE IT.

First book is better, this one seems to drag on and on with no win, luck, break or anything in sight.

I also don’t understand the part where all of a civilizations answers for one shit leader. I understand the fae are ruthless but they don’t even seem like people including their own. They can’t grow, change, learn? They all just seem to hate each other and everyone. At that point why be a civilization? Why not just live alone in your hut and not talk to people. Idk just seems a bit extreme
