Second Chance with a Cowboy

Rate this book
Three abandoned cowboys, born in heartbreak and bonded by brotherhood, are brought together by the fierce love of the grandparents who took them in and the ranch that’s the only home they’ve ever known…

He gave her up once, but will he risk everything for a second chance?
Ford, Dodge, and Chevy Lassiter are three half-brothers whose mother named them after the trucks that their dead-beat dads drove away from them in. Chevy is the middle brother, the easy-going flirt who uses his charm to keep anyone from getting too close. He’d only let himself fall in love once…but then he’d pushed her away so she could chase her dreams of becoming an aerospace engineer—leaving him and their small-town life behind.
Eleanor (Leni) Gibbs left the small Colorado mountain town of Woodland Hills ten years ago. Now she’s back, temporarily trading rocket science for diapers to help her sister with a new baby but isn’t sure she can handle facing the cowboy who broke her heart. But the undeniable chemistry between them still simmers beneath the surface, and every encounter has her wondering if they’re meant for something more.
Both have been burned by the past, and neither knows if they can trust the other—or themselves—with their fragile hearts. As old wounds reopen and new sparks fly, can Chevy and Leni find the courage to take a second chance on love—or will he let her fly away again, this time for good?

Second Chance With a Cowboy is the third book in The Lassiter Ranch Series by Jennie Marts. In this one, you will meet the middle brother of the three, Chevy. I love these three Lassiter brothers so much along with their amazing Grandfather and have been so excited for Chevy’s story!

The three Lassiter boys’ mother named each of them by the model of the truck their fathers drove away in when he left them. Then she brought them to her parent’s home and never returned for them. They were raised by their grandparents as if they were their own and now all work alongside their grandfather running the ranch. Chevy has watched his older brother, Ford and his younger brother, Dodge find love. But he knows that he already had that same love once, when he was in high school, and he let her go. She was it for him. It’s been ten years since she left town. But then, when his brothers send him on a coffee run to the town coffee shop, there she is, after all these years. And she looks pretty mad when she sees who is standing at the counter.

Eleanor “Leni” Gibbs fell in love with Chevy when they were in high school. He was the love of her life. But then he ended things and she went on to college and her dream job as rocket scientist. In all those ten years, she never fell in love again.

Leni’s older sister Lorna’s husband abandoned her with a five year old son and a newborn daughter. So Leni is going home, after ten years, to Woodland Hills, Colorado, to help her sister for a little while until she gets back on her feet. She always wondered what it would be like, seeing Chevy again after all this time. But she never thought it would be in a coffee shop. And her first reaction was anger.

Chevy knows as soon as he sees Leni again that he still loves her, even after all these years. But how can he get her to forgive him enough to give him another chance? To allow them the chance to get to know each other again as adults now, not as the kids they were before?

The chemistry between these two is off the charts. And it doesn’t take them long to realize that they still fit perfectly, in every way. Leni is loving every minute of being back with her sister, of being an Aunt to her niece and nephew, and to being back with Chevy. She had forgotten how much she loved the closeness of being part of a small community. But, she has a life, a career, in another state. Can she just give it all up and come home?

“He didn’t just kiss her, he stole her breath with his desire.”

These two together were just, “wow!” I loved them both but I really, really fell for Chevy. He was so cheerful, so loving, so...everything! These two were apart for ten years and when they came back together, it was like they were never apart. But there are secrets, one in particular that doesn’t have anything to do with them that really surprised me!! Once again, Jennie has written a wonderful, sweet, sexy story that captured my heart. I would love to go to Woodland Hills and go to the coffee shop and go to the chili festival. I want to see the little cabin on the lake on the Lassiter’s ranch! Jennie Marts paints such vivid pictures with her words. This is such a great series and I see there will be another book. I can’t wait!

I love this new book in the Lassiter Ranch series! I has so many of the things I adore in a story.

A second chance at love. A strong man (who is emotional, loyal, charming, humorous and hard working - bonus points for being a cowboy!). An incredibly smart female, who I think is a gem (many of the same qualities as the man, but I'll add a little clueless, which I find charming when coupled with being MENSA level).

A bond of family that can let others in but cannot be broken is woven throughout the series that is so heartwarming. Added to the mix, an adorable dog and horse that add comic moments and their super skill of empathy.

In romance stories there is always a misunderstanding. Sometimes it is silly, other times not. Another thing I liked about this story is that the misunderstanding is not really that. It is one person caring so much for the other that their feelings are put aside. This is not giving away anything, it is part of the plot from the beginning. No greater love…. then to deny your happiness for another to be happy.

Thanks so much to the author for giving me the pleasure of reading the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.

I’m never disappointed in Marts’s books. There’s a small town, gossipy old ladies, gorgeous hardworking cowboys and smart beautiful women. Throw in a second chance romance and it’s my favorite new book. Chevy and Leni had a young lovers romance until she was offered a scholarship to attend her dream college, which meant she would leave. Being the sexy head strong hero he thought he was doing the right thing by making sure she left. Once she came back, ten years later, after a few tension filled conversations it seem like she hadn’t left. They fit perfectly and just being himself he wooed her back. It was great to “see” his brothers and their ladies as they helped out with some special events. Their story had laugher, love and some tears but it all worked out. You can read the books in any order but it might spoil a few things, I suggest reading from the first book. I always look forward to Marts’s books and receiving an early copy, I’ve written my review voluntarily.

Loved this second chance romance. I'm in love with the Lassiter brothers, and Chevy is no exception. Chevy is my new hero. Chevy and Leni were high school sweethearts, but Chevy broke up with her, so she could pursue her dreams. Ten years later Leni is back to help her sister and the chemistry is still there between her and Chevy.

I was laughing from the first chapter and many more times through out this book. It left a smile on my face at the end and now I want more from this wonderful family. These are stand alone books but you will want to read them all. I highly recommend.

Wow, what a story. A second chance at love as long as both parties allow the other to make their own decisions. This is an amazing story and I loved it.
