Born into a family of chefs, Brianne grew up baking, spinning tales of bold princesses and gutsy ladies, and developing a deep love for British history and authors.

After receiving a degree in English Literature from Macalester College, she embarked on a career in journalism and web publishing.

Nearly 10 years ago, she moved to the history-soaked city of Edinburgh and felt like she'd finally come home. She now lives by the sea in East Lothian with her husband, sons, and crazy bulldog.

You're just splashing your ideas on the page, really; later you'll go back and polish and refine. Don't think, 'Oh, this first draft is so bad, I'm a terrible writer!' and then give up. Everyone's terrible at the first go! Stick with it, keep working, keep trying, keep improving. You will get better!(less)

I don't see any point in trying to power through it--I know I'll just end up frustrated and the writing will be terrible. Better to step away and have a breather. There have been times I've been blocked up for months, and that's ok. I've concentrated on other things, and eventually the desire to write came back. Most of the time it doesn't last that long--I just need some time away from my computer. I'll make a pot of tea, maybe take a walk or a run (I find that getting out of the house is one of the best cures!). Writing is tiring. It takes energy. Sometimes you need to recharge. Do it!(less)

“Susan turns her attention to strawberries. They're easier. Who doesn't like a strawberry? And they're excellent right now: a cold, damp spell in May delayed the season, but the more recent, prolonged good weather means they're exploding all over, rich and sweet. She's trying them out on a cloudy pavlova flavored with pink peppercorns, mixing the strawberries with mint and lemony sauce.”
Brianne Moore, All Stirred Up

“It's just past eleven o'clock at night, so finally fully dark out, which means it's the perfect time to see the light installations in St. Andrew Square.
As they cross the tram tracks and enter the square, Susan gasps, "Will you look at that?"
The entire square is softly aglow from hundreds of spherical bulbs planted on stiff stems, like luminescent poppy seed heads. They cover every last inch of grass in the square, and the lights slowly change from white to blue, to green, and back to white, the change staggered by section, so the square seems alive with rippling bands of light, like a tiny aurora borealis come down to earth.”
Brianne Moore, All Stirred Up

“Chris looked at the dog, who has finished feasting on her foot and now comes to sit at his feet, looking up at him as if she expects him to do something. She's leggier than most classic English bulldogs, mostly a dark fawn color, but with a large white patch over one eye. She has those droopy bulldog eyes that can look, by turns, sad and judgmental. But now she stands and cocks her head and wags her tail, and Chris finds himself smiling, begrudgingly, and patting the sofa cushion Beth just vacated.
"All right, up you come." The dog hops up, and Chris begins scratching her behind one ear.
"You going to put up with me?" he asks. She grunts and leans into his hand.”
