On top of Oscar and Golden Globe, Bier named Honorary Craftsman of the Year

film profile], starring Pierce Brosnan and Trine Dyrholm, Danish director Susanne Bier (photo) was last night named Honorary Craftsman of the Year by the Copenhagen Artisans Association.
“She brings us face to face with people in crisis, with joy and sorrow, revenge and forgiveness, loss and abuse – all aspects of emotional life are conjured up and displayed, so no one can be – or is – unaffected,” said the association chairman Robert Sørensen.
Bier was appointed during a ceremony at Copenhagen’s City Hall, attended by, ao, Denmark’s Queen Margrethe. 72 graduates from Denmark’s technical schools newly-educated artisans with the best results received silver or bronze medals and app €270,000 scholarships.
Also coming with a silver medal, the title of Honorary Craftsman has in 40 years been given to people for “making a special effort for the benefit of the Danish society, among others the late ship-owner Maersk McKinney Møller, actress Ghita Nørby and gastronomic entrepreneur Claus Meyer.
After Love Is All You Need, the romantic comedy which sold 645,000 tickets in Denmark, Bier is currently editing her second American movie, Serena, an adaptation of US author Ron Rash’s 2008 novel with new Hollywood stars Jennifer Lawrence (Oscar-nominated for Winter’s Bone) and Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) in the leads.

film profile] (2010) won her the Golden Globe for Best European Film and the Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Feature, before it garnered her the Best Director’s trophy at the European Film Awards.
