THE BARBARIAN INVASIONS
by Denys Arcand
synopsis
Rémy, divorced and in his fifties, is in hospital. His ex-wife, Louise, puts through an urgent call to their son, Sébastien, who lives in London. Sébastien hesitates – his father and he have had nothing to say to each other for a long time. He finally accepts to return to Montreal to help his mother and offer his father support.
As soon as he arrives, Sébastien moves heaven and earth, calls in favors and upsets the system in all kinds of ways. He’ll do anything to make his father’s situation more comfortable. He also gathers together at his father’s bedside the joyful group of people who’ve meant something to him in the past: relatives, friends and former lovers.
What have they become in this time of “barbaric invasion?”
