What Is Policy Week?
ASHP Policy Week serves as the kickoff to the ASHP policymaking process and the foundation of ASHP's advocacy efforts. Nearly 100 ASHP members who serve on five policy-recommending councils and the Commission on Affiliate Relations spend two days deliberating the profession’s most pressing issues. The result is the formation of recommendations and policies that are a key part of ASHP’s advocacy efforts and form the basis of our outreach to decision-makers like Congress, quality organizations, and other stakeholders. After Policy Week, the ASHP Board of Directors meets to review outcomes that are then approved by the House of Delegates during its session at the Pharmacy Futures meeting in June.

Meetings with Policymakers
September 18, 2024
ASHP Policy Week participants will meet with members of Congress and their aides to educate them about pharmacists’ patient care roles and to garner support for ASHP’s top legislative priorities. These meetings provide a valuable opportunity for legislators to hear how issues like provider status, drug shortages, rising drug costs, and the opioid crisis affect patients.
How You Can Help
Help make sure that every member of Congress hears about the important role that pharmacists play in patient care. Send an email to your congressional representatives describing your contributions to the healthcare team and offering to serve as a resource on healthcare issues. You’ll amplify the voice of the ASHP members who will meet with members of Congress during Policy Week.
