Avondale Lake, Avon IL I first went down "the big slide" in 1946, making the slide at least 63 years old. All the parts look original. We called this the big slide because it was so high compared with the nearby small slide. Judging from the 16 ladder steps, the height to the slide platform is about 15 ft. One of the apparatus in this lake park carries the nameplate: Mitchell Manufacturing Co/ Milwaukee Wis. Whether this slide is a Mitchell apparatus is uncertain. In any event, here is a…
