Mr. Magic (born John Rivas), prominent hip-hop radio DJ. His radio program, Rap Attack, was the 1st exclusive rap radio show to be aired on a major station. His reign on the NYC airwaves lasted 6 years and was instrumental in broadening the scope and validity of hip-hop music. During the 1980s a rivalry began between Mr. Magic and Kool DJ Red Alert, who hosted a weekly show on another station. The feud also played out between proxy rap groups, the Juice Crew and BDP (The Bridge Wars). R.I.P.
