MEMS electrothermal actuator

[edit]

I am rewriting this article in a detailed way and I think the most suitable title is "MEMS electrothermal actuator". Muhammadrehan645 (talk) 13:21, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It would be better to give a simple introduction about the basic principle of this kind of device. Besides, it would be more objective to give a complex comparision between this kind of actuator and the other types instead of solely discussing the advantages.--ChenLZ.1997 (talk) 13:15, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the valuable comment I will try to make the suggested changes Thanks. Muhammadrehan645 (talk) 13:47, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Review n. 2

[edit]

The article is very detailed and technical. I made some minor corrections to fix the gramamr and some typos. Good job! --Paneappenasfornato (talk) 13:54, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Review

[edit]

The article is well written and full of details. Please, fix the list of types since there must have been some change wile writing the article:

  • In the introduction of the article they are hot and cold arm, bimorph designs and chevron
  • In the introduction of the paragraph on types they are Asymmetric also known as hot and cold arm, Symmetric also known as chevron, bimorph
  • The sub-paraghraph are Asymmetric (bimorph, U-Shaped), Symmetric (bent beam, chevron), Bimorph

It can be easier for the reader if the name are used more consistently and in the same order. Also, it can be confusing that the Bimorph is both in the asymmetric and in a distinct sub-paragraph.

A part from the minor adjustment, the article is great, thank you for your contribution! Thomas Dalberto (talk) 14:01, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing out the mistake, I have updated it. Muhammadrehan645 (talk) 14:17, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Observations and suggestions for improvements

[edit]

The following observations and suggestions for improvements were collected, following an expert review of the article within the Science, Technology, Society and Wikipedia course at the Politecnico di Milano, in July 2024.

1) At the beginning of the Section "Asymmetric (hot-and-cold-arm actuator, U-Shaped)", the first type of MEMS thermo-actuator, in the sentence "An asymmetric MEMS electrothermal actuator, often referred to as a bimorph or U-shaped thermal actuator,..." the term "bimorph" is confusing, since it relates instead to the third type of MEMS thermo-actuators.

2) In the Section "Bimorph", there is this sentence: "The theoretical models for the behavior of bimorph actuators, such as tip deflection and output force, are well-established. For a simple two-layer cantilever, the curvature due to thermal expansion mismatch can be calculated using specific formulas involving temperature change, CTE, width, thickness, and Young’s modulus of each layer." However, there is no reference for these well known models. The authors could refer to the book by L.B. Freund and S. Suresh, Thin Film Materials, Cambridge University Press, 2004 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511754715 or a similar source.
