Overlake was formed in 2012 when Opfer and Barrett, who were playing in another band, became friends over their mutual interest in 90s bands and collaborated.[4] D'Amore joined the band three years later in 2015.[5][6]
Overlake released their debut album Sigh on April 15, 2014.[4][7] They released "Travelogue" as a single on October 30, 2015, via the record label Killing Horse.[8] Their second studio album Fall was released on May 12, 2017, via Bar/None Records.[2] Speaking about the album, Barrett said "I like that it's only eight songs because there are a couple of epics on it."[1]
