Tri-colored Model of Quadrangle
Tang Dynasty (618-907)
Excavated from a Tang Dynasty tomb at Zhongbu village in the western suburbs of Xi'an City
This rectangular compound has two sections of courtyards. The buildings on the axle line include central entrance, pyramidal-roofed pavilion, over-hanging gable roofed front hall, artificial mountain and ponds, octagonal pavilion and hip-gable roofed back hall (retiring quarters). The two sides of the central axis are arranged with symmetrically placed side halls. This model is decorated with complicated designs, showing superb craftsmanship which provide precious materials for the study of Tang architecture.
