Español: Escudo de la República de Costa Rica, descrito y adoptado por medio de las leyes del 27 de noviembre 1906 y 21 de octubre de 1964
desde 5 de mayo de 1998.


El Escudo Nacional representará tres volcanes y un extenso valle entre dos océanos y en cada uno de éstos un buque mercante. En el extremo izquierdo de la línea superior que marca el horizonte habrá un sol naciente. Cerrarán el Escudo dos palmas de mirto, unidas por una cinta ancha de color blanco y contendrá en letras doradas la leyenda “República de Costa Rica”. El espacio entre el perfil de los volcanes y las palmas de mirto lo ocuparán siete estrellas de igual magnitud, colocadas en arco que representarán las provincias de San José, Alajuela, Cartago, Heredia, Guanacaste, Puntarenas y Limón. El remate del Escudo lo formará una cinta Azul en forma de corona en la cual en letras plateadas figurará la leyenda “América Central”.

En cuanto a las especificaciones de color, en el Diario Oficial del 5 de mayo de 1998 se considera lo siguiente:

Además de las especificaciones contenidas en la ley supracitada los colores del Escudo son: el valle: verde claro; los volcanes: verde azul como son las montañas de Costa Rica. Se dibujaron los volcanes humeantes para diferenciarlos. El sol naciente es color oro viejo y las palmas de mirto verde oscuro. Las cinco estrellas que luego cambiaron a siete serán plateadas y el listón azul claro. El mar es color azul.
