Your draft article, Draft:Malia Obama

Hello, Paintspot. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Malia Obama".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Legacypac (talk) 08:57, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation pages

Hi Paintspot, Many thanks for creating those disambiguation pages for various flight incident. Very helpful! As part of my review I noticed Flight 472. This one only has two entries. In such cases it is often more efficient to create a disambiguation hat note on top of the articles referring to the respective other one. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Reiko Nakano, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Richard Evans (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Meanings of minor planets: 10K summary pages

Hi Paintspot, thx for checking and fixing some partial MoMP pages. I'm wondering if the 10K-summary pages, such as Meanings of minor planet names: 530001–540000 should be redirected as well. They seem completely obsolete. Since you have created some of the most recent ones in this series, I thought I should be asking you first. Do you think these pages could be redirected as well? Hi Paintspot. I note that you posted a strong keep for the Jaiden Animations page. Since Wikipedia deleted the article on Jaiden Animations, I've created a page for Jaiden Animations on Social Media Wiki, which has been set up specifically to host wiki pages that Wikipedia has deemed not to be "noteworthy" enough for an article. Feel free to create pages for other YouTubers as well if you'd like. Thanks! Smwnet (talk) 11:23, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. @Citrivescence: – May I request some clarification? Given that the page "Hair Love" isn't a duplicate of the Matthew A. Cherry page (but is instead a content fork for a short film that is now notable enough for its own page given its Oscar nomination): What should I have done in this scenario, and what should I do? To my knowledge, I created a "Hair Love" page and split the content from the Hair Love section of Matthew Cherry's page. My apologies if I made a mistake in the process of moving the section's information to its own page. Should something be done to supply the Hair Love page with a version of the "Matthew A. Cherry" page's history? Paintspot Infez (talk) 19:05, 13 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Pop (physics) into Crackle (physics). While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa (talk) 17:52, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help and support in the RM's success. I'll admit to punching the air when I woke up this morning and looked at the page. Haha, you're totally fine! And I appreciate all of your help in getting the ball rolling! I was just doing a few manually at first, but thankfully, a few Wikipedians much smarter than me were able to mass-move all of the relevant pages with "[2019–20]/[2020] coronavirus pandemic" in their titles essentially at once! So I think everything seems to be good! Again, thanks so much! Paintspot Infez (talk) 13:31, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Paintspot, there were quite a few that were messed up that you missed. Dream (Youtuber)

Hey, I was found out that there was another Draft:Dream (Youtuber) at the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dream (YouTuber) that someone made. The person who create the page left but as I scroll through the history, I saw you made almost half the edit. I was wondering if we could combined our articles into one, I said I could move my article into your articles so you could keep your article and I could delete my article. That all I have to say and I hope you have a great day. Kingconor62 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kingconor62 (talkcontribs) 19:56, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

IPA for Jon Ossoff & Frank Carlucci

Hey, I've seen that you've added multiple respellings/IPAs for numerous politicians, and I was wondering if you could do the same for Jon Ossoff and Frank Carlucci. I would do it myself, but given that I am not very good with IPAs and you are, I am asking you to do so. If you can't, no problem. Thanks! -- Politicsfan4 (talk) 23:21, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Politicsfan4: Just added both! I'd already added a pronunciation template to Jon Ossoff's page a while back, but one editor removed it. I've added it back, as a reader could easily assume it's pronounced "OH-soff" or "OSS-iff" instead of the correct "OSS-off". Paintspot Infez (talk) 23:33, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WandaVision episode articles

I just wanted to expand upon why I have moved the article back (and this will apply to future episodes). We currently do not have basically any episode-specific material to justify its existence; all that is there is either run-of-the-mill info applicable to any given episode (plot, cast, reviews) or info from the series article presented again to give context to things (basically all of the development and filming sections). Remember we are in no rush, and I'm sure we'll get the production insight from the creatives soon (be it later today or the coming days), at which point, it will most likely be good to move to the mainspace. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 20:13, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Favre1fan93: Thank you! And sorry about the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC trouble I inadvertently caused. It just seemed like the incredibly WP:SMALLDETAILS (like the American vs. British spelling, or inclusion vs. lack of an ellipsis) weren't enough to declare the episode the 100% clear primary topic just yet. Paintspot Infez (talk) 20:18, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Paintspot: No worries. Just by looking at what existed at this topic before today, you have a stub article on a play, and a small section at a band's article (not even an album) for a song. If the song had a full fledged article, I would agree about SMALLDETAILS because of the American vs. British spelling. But since it did not, and we are working towards making the WandaVision episode a full article, that in my view made it the primary topic. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 20:32, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and to reiterate what I said in my initial comment, for episodes 5-9 of WandaVision, it's the hope to again start these in the draft space and build them out because we hardly have any info for them, unlike the first three because the press got to see though and readied articles. See Talk:WandaVision#Future episode articles for the discussion. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 20:34, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Tropical Cyclone Naming

FYI the tropical cyclone naming article distinctly only covers current naming practises which the greek names no longer are, as otherwise it would become bogged down in details such as previous warning centres naming systems, the BoM previously having 3 separate naming lists etc. As a result of this we have History of tropical cyclone naming and List of historical tropical cyclone names, which give the appropiate weight to the systems.Jason Rees (talk) 03:50, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Khyiris Tonga moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Khyiris Tonga, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Captain America

See Talk:Captain America (Marvel Cinematic Universe), where it was agreed that the redirect should not lead to Steve Rogers (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Thanks. IronManCap (talk) 22:57, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@IronManCap: Oh shoot, my bad! I was just trying to add hatnotes on all the character pages whose redirects could be ambiguous with the films: but I hadn't checked in a bit that this specific redirect no longer redirected to Steve Rogers (Marvel Cinematic Universe)—which makes 100% sense given that there's now more than one character that refers to! Dang, should've checked first, lol! Paintspot Infez (talk)
Yeah, I understand. I guess Rogers is the only anomaly in this instance. I suppose technically the same issue could be raised with Scott Lang, as Hank Pym was also Ant-Man, although that was offscreen and before the MCU's depiction. It feels right to add the hatnote for the other characters, but Steve is the odd one out. IronManCap (talk) 23:11, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, but it 1000% makes sense to have "Captain America (Marvel Cinematic Universe)" redirect to a dab page, especially given that the title has applied to (1.) multiple characters (2.) in the present of the franchise, (3.) two of which have Wikipedia pages (4.) and have headlined / will headline a film while occupying that title. It makes 1000% sense (and if that redirect still redirected to Steve's, I'd probably advocate for it to be redirected to a dab page) — I just didn't realize that it redirected to a dab page already! Capitalisation of Undertale soundtrack track titles

Hi. Are you aware of MOS:CT and WP:TMRULES? What significance does the capitalisation of "NGAHHH!!!" have? Is that not just a yell of some sort? What does "sans." need to start with a lower-case letter for? "CORE" and "SAVE" I could maybe understand, although neither are acronyms and are stylisations, and all that SAVE in all-caps appears to mean is to emphasise that it refers to the game's save function. Clarification

About the edit I did on Shota Aizawas Page. So I just wanted to say I wouldn’t say it was vandalism. When I edited the page it originally was actually about the fictional character. And there was a false birth date so I wanted to make it right. But now it got changed to a page about the football player. I wasn’t aware of that so how was I supposed to know? Right I couldn’t have known, so I’m sorry anyway but I really didn’t know that the Wikipedia page now is about the football player. List of Pokémon revert

Hello. Can you clarify what this edit summary means? It wasn't clear to me, and I find myself otherwise quite surprised that an editor of 8 years would restore an article of such poor quality without improvement. Sergecross73 msg me 18:37, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! What I meant was: "Wikipedia has a fully-intact, fully-complete list of every species of Pokémon and their types and evolutions, etc. After that edit, that complete list (of every species of Pokémon and their types and evolutions) became incomplete." While the Generation IX page's entries needed a bit of further sourcing and/or expanding, it can't be improved if readers can't easily access it or it doesn't exist. Paintspot Infez (talk) 18:55, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It can still be cultivated on the Pokémon Violet page though, which is pretty barren as well. I would have merged, but the list appeared to be largely unsourced... Sergecross73 msg me 20:37, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of group resource

I would like to invite any interested editors here to join the task force for Contemporary History. One of our core goals is to highlight and promote the coverage of contemporary history as its own distinct area here at Wikipedia.

We differ from a simple effort to cover current events, in that we seek to provide the editing community with resources that would allow it to provide broad and comprehensive coverage of articles on contemporary history as a broad topical field, rather than simply on individual current events as they may occur.

to that end, we have set up articles such as 2020s in political history, which allow the whole editing community to adopt a broad scope in keeping wikipedia updated with broad historical trends, topics and events, as they occur, but also as they become relevant to the field of history overall. I hope that sounds helpful and worthwhile to you. you are welcome to join us in any way, or to offer any input or ideas that you may wish. we welcome your input. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 15:16, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, A. J. Arcuri, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Hi Paintspot. I saw that you have an interest in pages about people and politics and was hoping you would be willing to weigh-in regarding my COI request here. For example, one of my complaints is that the current page explains the CEO was criticized for not publicly condemning Russia, without explaining that the safety of his employees would be put at risk if he did so. I posted at BLPN, but it did not prompt much discussion. Ladida555 (talk) 17:25, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The full second years for drought articles

Is there some reason under which the second year has to be completely spelled? I’m saying it was extended from 1988–90 --> 1988–1990 North American drought and from 2020–22 extended into 2020–2022 for a similar article. Is this Manual of Style rules? Angela Kate Maureen Pears 18:43, 4 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Tropical Storm Angela: It is, actually! The Manual of Style (in MOS:YEARRANGE) says that, basically:
  • it's okay to abbreviate the second year ONLY IF they're two consecutive years (so, for example, you're allowed to use either "2020–2021" or "2020–21"),
  • but that ALL other year ranges should have both years written out in full (so "2020–2022" is permitted, while "2022–22" is not). Paintspot Infez (talk) 19:44, 4 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

So Into You (Tamia song)

Hey Paintspot.

Since you recently supported the move for the capitalization of "into" for the "So Into You" song by Tamia, what would be your opinion on Kylie Minogue's "Come into My World" song? I was just wondering whether or not I should make another request a move for that too. AnimatedZebra (talk) 20:10, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • @AnimatedZebra: I'd probably vote Oppose on that move. The only reason I supported a move for "So Into You" is because "into you" is an idiomatic phrase (where the word "into" is being used as more than just a normal preposition) — but in "Come into My World", "into" is basically just a regular preposition. Grey (the color)

You sent a thanks for my July 2021 edit on this article. I am baffled as to why ppl keep editing the image from a lovely "shades of grey" volcanic image, to a volcanic image in shades of tan and brown! The current image has been returned to the "brown/tan" image.

Why, oh why? Grey and Brown are very different. The image I prefer has wonderful gradations of light grey to darker grey. Sigh. But thanks for the support! Sourcing and notability on lists of Pokémon by generation (e.g., List of generation I Pokémon)

Hello Paintspot,

The lists of Pokémon by generation articles contain a large volume of information in the 'notes' column which appears to not be sourced and/or below the threshold for notability due to being detailed in-universe information.

I have opened a discussion in the teahouse before making any changes to avoid edit wars and agree on the appropriate actions for these articles. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Teahouse#Notes_in_the_lists_of_Pok%C3%A9mon_by_generation_(e.g.,_List_of_generation_I_Pok%C3%A9mon) [which will likely be included in archive 1198 if this link is no longer active].

As you are one of the people who has contributed strongly to these articles over the years (see https://xtools.wmcloud.org/authorship/en.wikipedia.org/List_of_generation_I_Pok%C3%A9mon , https://xtools.wmcloud.org/authorship/en.wikipedia.org/List_of_generation_II_Pok%C3%A9mon , etc. which list you amongst the top authors of these pages' content), I want to keep you informed so that there is a consensus for any significant changes to these page moving forwards.

Speedy deletion nomination of Kalcium

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Kalcium requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2019_September_29#Kalcium. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
