Notice

The article Serdar Avcı has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article appears to be written by the boxer himself. Article has been flagged as not complying with Wikipedia's quality standards since August, though hasn't ever met the quality standards since creation. Lack of notability and lack of diverse or reliable sources. (Originally proposed by @Prodjex in November 2023 – technical difficulties botched the PROD and resulted in copied text here. Properly re-PROD-ed in January 2024)

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. InvadingInvader (userpage, talk) 04:39, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • The assertion that the article is written by the boxer himself is not true. I am not a boxer, not a sportsman at all. How do people fabricate reasons to delete articles? Such people need to be put under the spotlight. On the other side, the article is sourced, and the person is notable enough. I hope the person, who proposed the deletion will revert his/her insertion. CeeGee 05:57, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bar associations statements should not be in wikivoice

Hello @CeeGee. So people will probably assume the whole paragraph was their statement but perhaps it should be explicit with each sentence starting “They said that …” or somesuch Chidgk1 (talk) 10:55, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've copyedited slightly. Removed two sentences with tagged as problematic. Put the comments of the Bars Association in quotes. And, tried to clarify the comment. Please check. Thanks. CeeGee 08:46, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Has Google translated this right?

in Google Translate gives

Ultimately, it was determined by the judicial authorities that all stages of this grave event, which led to an environmental disaster, and the actions and inactions of the public officials and company officials who were authorized and responsible at these stages, were crimes against physical integrity and damage to the environment as stipulated in private law and administrative law and the Turkish Penal Code. It is clear that it should be evaluated within the scope of pollution crimes.

but my Turkish is not good enough to be sure it has translated it right Chidgk1 (talk) 11:09, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What is a “crime against physical integrity”? That does not make sense in English. Chidgk1 (talk) 11:16, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ah I see you have translated it better as “crimes against bodily integrity”. So have some people been charged with negligent homicide or if not do we know what the charges are? I am not a lawyer and I am not competent to translate the Bars Association statement. Chidgk1 (talk) 11:28, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

And why “Ultimately” when the judicial process has not finished yet? Chidgk1 (talk) 11:20, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • With "crime against physical integrity" is meant "crime against bodily integrity". I guess this is understandable. For my point of view "Last but not least" should replace "Ultimately". Shall I implement the Google translation as such? And, shall I put everything what the Bars Association says in quotes? Thank you for your efforts. CeeGee 11:37, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CeeGee, happy to help. I'm sorry to hear your DYK nom expired but neither the GOCE nor any other editor are responsible for ensuring the deadlines of another process in which they are not involved are met. In case you weren't aware, the GOCE Requests page is rather busy these days, and to prioritize one process over many others would be both unfair and unworkable, though you could ask at REQ Talk. If you wish your future noms to be copy-edited to a schedule, I suggest you could either a) engage the services of a professional (i.e. paid) copy-editor and advise them of your deadline; b) wait for the requested copy-edit to be completed before nominating the article; or c) become sufficiently skilled in writing English that no other copy-editing is needed. In short, my response to your suggestion is "no". Cheers, Baffle☿gab 07:04, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The page Hakan Yılmaz has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it was an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguated only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ended in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguated zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • was a redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that did not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Serkan Yıldırım revertion

Hey saw you undid my edit. What you reverted it too was not a neutral point of view, it was also poorly written using words that are not used in common English. There was quotation marks around words like ineligibility that give the impression that the decision was incorrect.

I am undoing your change, as it is not a neutral point of view, and instead the point of view of a Turkish fan. Basetornado (talk) 06:09, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article may have language errors because English is not my mother tongue. If you detected some errors, you might have corrected them as many Wikipedians do. But to judge that it is not neutral I do not accept. Everything written is fact, and clarify the situation in detail. As yıu have no user page, I don't know for which reason, I could not contact you for my note. I hope we don't sıart now an edit war, because I will restore my writing. CeeGee 12:38, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I corrected the errors. But what you wrote was not neutral in English and it also wasn't the entire truth, that's the issue. In your writing you say that the IPC only appealed after he won. That wasn't true. The WPA had already appealed and were awaiting that appeal at the time he won. It was that appeal that led to him being disqualified. I'm not here for an edit war as well. I'm telling you that what you wrote in English is not neutral. I didn't change the sections that were neutral. Only the sections that needed to be fixed. I understand that English is not your mother tongue. So it may be that you are writing it as would make sense in Turkish. But in English, it does not read as neutral. Please read what I changed it too. If you feel that there is anything I have missed or left out, please just change those sections. Don't revert the entire thing. Basetornado (talk) 12:50, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will check it. It seems that only the portion about the time of WPA's appeal to the higher court was in question. Ok, if you are sure, no problem. I will restore other relevant information.By the way, please refrain from giving me advice in which language I have to write. I am on Wikipedia a little bit more than 20 years. CeeGee 13:04, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not trying to give you advice on which language you have to write. Im saying that how you wrote it in English wasn't in a neutral tone and was using words that are not commonly used in the context you had used them. It was about the timeline, but also how you described factors in it. For example "which decided on Yıldırım's 'ineligibility'." Using quotation marks around ineligibility is not neutral. That's the main issue with it.
I understand you have been doing it for 20 years. That doesn't mean there wasn't issues with what you wrote. If you hadn't reverted my edit, without actually checking what I wrote, I wouldn't have said anything. I simply wrote "neutral" to show why I had changed things. Prank of Bardakçı Baba

Hallo CeeGee, I just wrote a short article about a Prank occurred in Istanbul, the Prank of Bardakçı Baba. The article is missing a picture of the lavish tomb, which has been demolished a couple of years ago. There are several pictures on the tomb on google maps, and I wonder if you could contact someone among the photographers (they are all turks) and ask them to allow a commons license for one of their pictures. I tried with a university professor, who assured me that he would have done it, but he disappeared. I would try myself, but unfortunately my turkish oscillates between A2 (when i am in Istanbul), and A1 (when I am elsewhere). If you don't have time and lust to do it, don't worry, I will leave the link to the maps picture. Tesekkürler! Alex2006 (talk) 11:28, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Alessandro57: Hi! Nice to hear from you again. Your article is interesting for me. I can try to be helpful for image gathering. I need the links of the contact persons. Please note that in the past, I tried to get images of people included in my biography articles by contacting them, and asking them to either upload their image by themself or send them to me giving me permission. However, no success at all. The people did not reply either. Anyway, it is worth of trying once again for you. Waiting for the links. Ciao. CeeGee 07:55, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot CeeGee! You can try with the professor whom I contacted:
[1]
email: egemen.yilgur@yeditepe.edu.tr
to me, he looked like a serious person, maybe he only forgot to write back, but if a fellow citizen write to him maybe is better. This is an excerpt of my mail:
Looking on google maps I noticed that 6 years ago you took a picture of the grave, and I would like to ask whether you could upload this picture on Wikimedia Commons with a license of your choice. If you agree but have no time to do it, I could download the picture from google and do it on your behalf, but in that case you should give me (and CC to Commons, at permissions-commons@wikimedia.org ) written permission to upload it and choose a license for the picture (like for example a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license, necessary to give you credit and attribution for any usage) otherwise my upload will be deleted.
Maybe you can send him also the link to the article, so he will see that we are serious... If we fail there, we can try with the other ones, I just have to find out the way to contact them directly, since I found their google accounts only. BTW, maybe if you are interested it would be nice to translate the article to Turkish wikipedia too. Cok Tesekkurler! Alex2006 (talk) 09:38, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Good! Maybe if he is acquainted with wikipedia he can see that we are two serious users, and that this is not a scam...I am afraid that if google notices that the tomb has been demolished, all the pictures on maps will be deleted. This would be bad. Alex2006 (talk) 07:29, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
