Seth Killian as founder?

Seth Killian should be mentioned in this article as he is the founder of the tournament 24.14.22.168 (talk) 08:07, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's generally recognized that the tournament is actually founded by Tom Cannon, Tony Cannon and Joey Cuellar. In general, the tournament is the brainchild of the Cannons. --nothingxs 17:39, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Battle of the Bay

I think the Battle of the Bay results should be shown considering that its the same tournament, only changing its name a year after moving to Vegas. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.176.205.162 (talk) 05:11, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, on second thought, they could be put back in. Except... there needs to be a source other than the SRK forums. TheStickMan[✆Talk] 19:47, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The official PlayStation Blog just announced that they're streaming the Evo 2011 feed to its millions of users all weekend. This is a huge step up from Evo's normal viewership which capped around at 33,000 last year.

Latif's Nationality

There seems to be some debate on the subject of Latif's nationality. To my knowledge, he's a full American citizen but there seems to be a constituent that insists that he lives in Arizona on a Student/Tourist visa. Is there any way this can be cleared up? Ganshenme (talk) 12:05, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've heard of this, but I don't see it anywhere. He is going the represent the US at SBO, so I think he should be kept as American until further notice. TheStickMan[✆Talk] 20:47, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And speaking of nationality, there's seems to be a little controversy over PR Rog. Yeah, it's "Puerto Rican Balrog", but doesn't he live in the U.S.? The flags are for nationality, not ethnicity. Any word on that? TheStickMan[✆Talk] 00:21, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

He is from Jubail, Saudi Arabia, and is studying abroad in the USA. He is a Saudi national to the best of my knowledge. --Humuphile (talk) 16:55, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

EvoTrending topics on Twitter not a sign of impact and growth?

Yeah there's a lot of nonsense that trends most of the time, but EVO tweets trending is surely a note worthy sign of the times? — Preceding unsigned comment added by FLStyle (talkcontribs) 23:08, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There are already far better indicators of a larger impact of fighting games (or perhaps, e-sports in general) today. Destructoid, G4, GameSpot were there, and even IGN did some minor coverage. Developers held conferences there. It was the largest Evo ever. It was streamed on PS Home. Over 40 countries participated. Like I said before, tons of stuff already trend on Twitter, but you don't read about that on most articles on here. TheStickMan[✆Talk] 23:24, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Does this kind of thing have a place on the Evo page?

Team Abbreviations in Aliases

In the top 8 lists for each event, team abbreviations in aliases start showing up in 2010. Team abbreviations can be difficult to understand for the uninitiated, and should be explained if possible. I was also considering linking the first instance of EG to Evil Geniuses since the team has its own page. Thoughts?

Go for it. I'll be working on EVO 2012 updates next week so I'll help out if needed.--FLStyle (talk) 23:03, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. I've got to think about exactly how I want to do this. Hopefully I will be able to get something workable up this week. Radicaledward101 (talk) 17:40, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Some stuff came up, but I'm still planning on doing this eventually, just not this week. Radicaledward101 (talk) 17:55, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Misc

Looking at the article while trying to figure out what to do about team name prefixes has led me to a couple of unrelated observations:

  • There are two different types of tables in use currently. We should probably pick one and stick with it.
    • Related: No matter which one we pick, the page feels really weird with all of the tables left aligned and with vastly different widths. Some kind of formatting would make the page much easier to read.
  • Linking is inconsistent.
    • Super Street Fighter II Turbo is linked twice out of its 3 instances
    • Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 is never linked.
    • I added a link on the first instance of Daigo Umehara last week on the assumption that only the first instance in the article should be linked. Now someone has added a link on the second instance, but not any of the subsequent ones.
  • A few character names are linked. This is seemingly at random. Perhaps links to the character lists for the various games (such as List of Street Fighter characters) in a see also section would be more appropriate?

For the tables, I like the class="wikitable" ones (I think they are newer). I'm not sure what to do with the formatting. I think centering them and giving them a set width would be excellent, but I'm not sure what the common choice is here. For the links, I think it might be useful to treat each table as separate and therefore link Daigo's name in each set of results. This will make the standings easier to navigate as more and more players become notable enough to have their own pages. I also think it would be useful to link the game titles in each result table's header rather than just the first instance. However, it was my understanding that linking an item multiple times in the same article breaks policy.

Also, should we include a note about the Virtua Fighter 5 and Skullgirls side tournaments at EVO 2012? They seem like they might have greater importance than regular side tournaments since they both featured prizes from the development companies.

Radicaledward101 (talk) 18:18, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For the point about the two types of tables, I was in the process of making the tables neater about a year ago. Then I got lazy. That's why the ones in the middle have not yet been changed. By all means, please fix those tables. TheStickMan[✆Talk] 12:51, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the Evolution 2002 tables to wikitables with fixed column widths, which in my opinion look better and allow for a little bit of standardization. I'm looking for feedback on both the overall look of the tables and on the column widths. If people like how those tables look, I'll change all the rest. CaSJer (talk) 17:30, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Much better! --SubSeven (talk) 21:01, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I like it. TheStickMan[✆Talk] 22:50, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Totals

I got bored and counted the amount of first place wins by country:

  • USA - 34
  • Japan - 30
  • Korea - 6
  • France - 3
  • UK - 2
  • Saudi Arabia - 1

Do you guys think these stats would make for an interesting part of the page? (I double checked these, but I might need to go over the page again just to make sure) 24.18.50.139 (talk) 16:19, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

To be quite honest, no. These stats are skewed by the vast majority of players present at Evo being American, the varying popularity of certain games in different countries (such as Marvel 2/3, MK), the longtime establishment of the Japanese scene as opposed to the European/Korean ones, etc. Sorry. TheStickMan[✆Talk] 16:35, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's all good, I was gonna count them anyway so I figured I'd share them :) 24.18.50.139 (talk) 16:42, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
