etymology and history
For the first time Semseyit in „the mine Baia Sprie was found “(Felsöbánya mine) in Romania and 1881 through József Sándor Krenner (1839-1920). It designated after mineral Andor of Semsey (1833-1923), a Hungarian Edelmann and Hobbymineralogen.
classification
In old systematics of the minerals after Strunz (8th edition) the Semseyit still belonged to the summarized department of the Sulfosalze. With 9. Edition of Strunz' mineral systematics this department was redefined and subdivided besides more precisely after the cations taken part in the chemical formula. The mineral is in to the again formed now accordingly department „of the Sulfosalze with SnS as model “and forms there together with Fülöppit, Heteromorphit, Plagionit and Rayit an own group within the subsection of the SnS Sulfosalze with lead as additional cation.
In systematics of the minerals after Dana the Semseyit is likewise “assigned to the class „of the sulfides and Sulfosalze. There he is in the department „of the Sulfosalze with the relationship 2,0 < z/y < 2,49 and the composition (A+) i (A2+) j [ByCz] “. There it forms likewise together with Fülöppit, Heteromorphit, Plagionit and Rayit Fülöppitgruppe” (monoclinically: C2/c contains Pb, self-service).

education and discovery sites
Semseyit separates in hydrothermal solution EN at middle temperatures between 300 and 350° C ab[2]. Begleitminerale are among other things Bournonit, Jamesonit, quartz, Sphalerit and Zinckenit.
Beside its type locality Baia Sprie was found the mineral in Romania still in „the mine Herja “(Baia Mare) and Satu Mare. Herja is considered thereby as one of the best occurrences for Semseyit at all, with mineral finds between and three centimeters a size and technical or rosettenförmigem AussehenCite error: The <ref>
