[edit]

Previous version of sortase page focused excessively on pilus-specific sortases and seemed to miss the general point that many surface proteins are attached by one housekeeping sortase.

I removed an unsupported statement (the reference was not pertinent) that sortase acts as both a transpeptidase and a protease (that is, can transfer proteins to something other than water, and can simply hydrolyze by transferring proteins to water). Can someone find a publication that states that a sortase can act as a peptide hydrolase rather than a transpeptidase? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel haft (talkcontribs) 21:15, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
