Welcome!

Hello, TreeSmiler, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes ~~~~; this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}} before the question on your talk page. Again, welcome! Your recent edits

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 02:48, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey thanks for that!. I shall comply--TreeSmiler (talk) 01:45, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rocky for Admin

I remember thinking a while ago that Rockpocket would make a good admin. Even tho I didnt vote for him/her i was not wrong. (S)he is acting like a good admin so far 8-)

Death of notable animals

Hi, I noticed you attempted to remove the entry for Tatiana at Deaths in 2007. It has been standard procedure for some time to report the death of notable animals, that is, those with their own Wikipedia article. You may like to follow some of the discussion here. Medical advice at the Ref Desk

When you advise someone to seek medical advice (which is the right thing to do), please don't offer a suggested diagnosis: [1]. It's also okay (and encouraged) to remove the question and any responses to it. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 18:22, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK thanks for the advice!

Hmm

You may want to play it conservative doing things like this. Yeah, it's not much of a ref desk question, but on the other hand it's not really hurting anything either. I often think it's best to leave things alone in cases like that- some people get really bent out of shape about removals, so IMO it's best to do them only when a plausible case can be made that the questions/answers are harmful in some way. Friday (talk) 17:59, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So why is it other people can remove non questions, but not me?--TreeSmiler (talk) 23:10, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If this is quote from the guidelines is no longer applicable:

The reference desk is not a chatroom, nor is it a soapbox for promoting individual opinions. (my bolding) it should be changed --TreeSmiler (talk) 23:15, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers, TreeSmiler, just wanted to stop by and say that I like your user name. I always visualize this friend whenever it pops up on my watchlist. Guidelines are just that, lines to guide your own way through the reference desks. No need to enforce them rigorously regarding others. Take care. ---Sluzzelin talk 01:37, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Everyone should be conservative in this regard, not just you. If something is harmless, it may not be worth the trouble to remove it. If something is potentially harmful, then the balance swings in favor of removing it. The guidelines discourage such stuff- they do not require that it always be removed. I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles

Since when were song/movie/names etc in lower case?--Koncorde (talk) 19:35, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See [2] the wikiproject on the matter for more information. I am going to revert your edit based on this, plus common sense. Cheers. --Koncorde (talk) 19:39, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
On what basis would you assume that I'm forever blowing bubbles is the correct capitalization for a song title?
Note that in the future, should you wish to rename an article, you ought to use the 'move' tab. 'Cut and paste' moves lose the article's history information, which means that the original article authors don't receive the credit that they deserve.
Per Friday's comment above, please don't use 'It's the rules; sorry, I don't make them' or any variant thereof as your sole explanation for potentially-controversial edits. Perhaps you ought to cool off your editing for a bit—someone might start to think you're deliberately trying to draw attention to yourself. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 20:04, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry genuinely did not know of the capitalisation rules on song titles. Thought they were the same as for other articles.--TreeSmiler (talk) 23:02, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not trying to draw attention in any way. Why would I want to do that?--TreeSmiler (talk) 23:04, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your open secret...

...is now out in the open.

For the purposes of clarity, I consider you to be under the absolute tightest of paroles with regards to civility, refraining from personal attacks, and the use of sockpuppet accounts.

Any edits that even brush against the incivil or might be remotely interpreted as an attack on another editor will be met with blocks without further warning. You will not edit the User page of any other editor. If another editor receives an incivil email from you, I will consider that a breach of this parole.

If there is any indication that you have created or are using additional accounts beyond this one, you and all the other accounts will be banned.

Finally, you may not edit any page that governs or discusses the Wikipedia Reference Desks. This includes

as well as any other page dealing with the governance and function of the Ref Desks.

These are the terms under which I will not interfere with your continued editing. I may amend and update these terms from time to time. Other administrators are not bound by them. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 16:10, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry Im just not with you! Have you sent this to the wrong user by any chance?--TreeSmiler (talk) 18:58, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

You have been blocked for 24 hours for playing dumb. The terms of your parole are clear. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 19:08, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So you can block any one for any reason that takes your fancy? Sounds fair to me (I dont think)--TreeSmiler (talk) 19:32, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, but I can block banned users who are wasting the time of other editors by playing dumb. Your block has been extended to 72 hours, and this page has been protected.
I hope you smarten up when you get back. When you're not being disingenous and obnoxious, you're a useful contributor. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 19:38, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with the last sentence. David D. (Talk) 21:13, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
