Revision as of 20:28, 16 November 2023

This is a list of redirects that have been proposed for deletion or other action on November 15, 2023.

National Produce Stakes

There is also an article at National Produce Stakes (Irish greyhounds). Are we confident that the former name of a horse race in the distant past is a dominant topic over the greyhound race held since 1939? — BarrelProof (talk) 16:52, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Crimson Tide(University of Alabama)

Delete per WP:RDAB due to the extra space between the title and the disambiguator. The title with the correct spacing, Crimson Tide (University of Alabama), is a redirect that targets the same target as the nominated redirect. Steel1943 (talk) 23:21, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

List of Russian administrative centers(*) and cities over 50,000 population at 2002 census

Besides having an unnecessarily unwieldy title, this redirect is no longer accurate anyways since the target reflects the most recent census in 2021, not 2002. Steel1943 (talk) 22:03, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete: For all reasons cited by nom. The target is not accurate as it only includes 2021 and 2010 census data, completely dropping the 2002 census data out of the article and even if it did include the 2002 data the way that it is written as "administrative centers(*)" is odd enough that probably this could be deleted as unnatural as it would be highly unlikely someone types in that with the asterisk in parens. While this was the name of the article when it was first created, it was moved only 8 days after creation back in 2006, so I find it unlikely that there is an issue of incoming links here to need to account for. TartarTorte 23:12, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fundraiser(person)

Delete per WP:RDAB due to the extra space between the title and the disambiguator. The title with the correct spacing, Fundraiser (person), is a redirect that targets the same target as the nominated redirect. Steel1943 (talk) 21:40, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sony Entertainment Television(India)

Delete per WP:RDAB due to the extra space between the title and the disambiguator. The title with the correct spacing, Sony Entertainment Television (India), is a redirect that targets the same target as the nominated redirect. Steel1943 (talk) 21:31, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bobsleigh(sport)

Delete per WP:RDAB due to the extra space between the title and the disambiguator. The title with the correct spacing, Bobsleigh (sport), is a redirect that targets the same target as the nominated redirect. Steel1943 (talk) 21:27, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Vidyasagar(Music director)

Delete per WP:RDAB due to the lack of space between the title and the disambiguator. The title with the correct spacing, Vidyasagar (Music director), does not exist; However, the version with the proper capitalization in the disambiguator, Vidyasagar (music director), exists and targets the same target as the nominated redirect. Steel1943 (talk) 21:19, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Will(law)

Delete per WP:RDAB due to the extra space between the title and the disambiguator. The title with the correct spacing, Will (law), is a redirect that targets the same target as the nominated redirect. Steel1943 (talk) 21:13, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Vikram(actor)

Delete per WP:RDAB due to the extra space between the title and the disambiguator. The title with the correct spacing, Vikram (actor), is the target of the nominated redirect. Steel1943 (talk) 21:04, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Matrix(mathematics)

Delete per WP:RDAB due to the extra space between the title and the disambiguator. The title with the correct spacing, Matrix (mathematics), is the target of the nominated redirect. Steel1943 (talk) 21:00, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Matrix Theory and Linear Algebra

Delete per WP:XY. Matrix theory redirects to the same target as the nominated redirect, but Linear algebra is a different topic. Steel1943 (talk) 20:58, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Comment "Matrix Theory and Linear Algebra" is a standard sort of title of an introductory linear algebra course, probably offered and hundreds of universities, and perhaps also of textbooks intended for such a course. --JBL (talk) 21:09, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like a potential argument for WP:REDLINK deletion then, if the pairing of these two terms together represent a university course of some sort rather than the target subject. Steel1943 (talk) 21:21, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the result of "Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2023 January 21#Algebra I" may be relevant here regarding setting some sort of precedence. Steel1943 (talk) 21:23, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That may or may not be relevant. The principle argument for deleting the redirects there was that they were too ambiguous to make a viable disambiguation or set index article, referring to many different courses at multiple levels (at least high school to undergraduate level) in multiple different education systems and institutions. @JBL's comment suggests far less ambiguity in this situation. Thryduulf (talk) 14:00, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you can source that this is a common title, then a page with that as an introduction and links to both topics with a brief (few words) summary of each would make a good set index. Thryduulf (talk) 10:24, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Speaking from a non-WP-editor perspective, this is easy to verify by putting the phrase into your favorite search engine and looking through a few pages of hits, picking out different universities and textbooks as you go. Of course this is not a WP-usable form of verification, and I am skeptical that one can find much in the way of secondary sources commenting on the fact of the commonness of this phrase. We can see in the history of this redirect something of what was intended, since it originally pointed to "matrix theory". This phrase is a partial synonym of "linear algebra", suggesting the less-theoretical aspects of the field, especially as taught in introductory courses with audience largely composed of engineers -- but I don't think we really have an article about that (or, to the extent that we do, the article is already the current target of the redirect). In the end I've just commented here (rather than !voted) because I don't see that it matters very much: it's easy to understand why the redirect was created and why it points where it does (so its existence isn't harmful), but it's also hard to see a situation where it is crucial for navigation in the encyclopedia (so its deletion also wouldn't be harmful). --JBL (talk) 18:13, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Alleged role of Saudi officials in the September 11 attacks

Declined R3, even though this is an implausible typo and the nominator has been advised to request R3 [1]. No need for such a long search phrase to clutter Wikipedia's search box, especially that the redirect was created barely a few hours ago. — kashmīrī TALK 20:56, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Blood Red Throne

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was moot as the redirect has been deleted. (non-admin closure) Edward-Woodrow (talk) 20:46, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Current target has been redirected as non-notable to Trail of Tears (band) which makes no mention of Blood Red Throne. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 20:08, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh hey, OwenX just re-deleted the redirect so this is moot now. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 20:21, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Home (Basshunter lyric video)

Redundant redirect from an implausible search term. With extremely rare exceptions on the order of "Thriller", a music video would virtually never qualify for its own standalone article as a separate topic from the song that it's the music video for, and lyric videos (which absolutely anybody can make and post to YouTube at any time whether it's "official" or not) have an even weaker prospect of independent notability than narrative videos do -- and since Home (Basshunter song) already exists as an article about the song, there's no compelling reason why it would need a separate redirect from a differently-disambiguated title representing its own lyric video. Bearcat (talk) 17:02, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: The target article mentions the existence of a related "lyric video" in the top section, but I'm uncertain if its passing mention is enough to validate any utility this nominated redirect has. Steel1943 (talk) 19:28, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Angels Ain't Listening (lyric video)

Redundant redirect from an implausible search term. With extremely rare exceptions on the order of "Thriller", a music video would virtually never qualify for its own standalone article as a separate topic from the song that it's the music video for, and lyric videos (which absolutely anybody can make and post to YouTube at any time whether it's "official" or not) have an even weaker prospect of independent notability than narrative videos do -- and since Angels Ain't Listening already exists as an article about the song, there's no compelling reason why it would need a separate redirect from a disambiguated title representing its own lyric video. Bearcat (talk) 16:34, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. Lyric video exists and targets the proper subject. The nominated redirect explains the "lyric video" subtopic of the target article's primary subject. For these reasons, this redirect does not seem misleading or unnecessary, and directs readers to what they are most likely attempt on to locate if looking up this term. Steel1943 (talk) 19:26, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. This seems to be a very plausible search term for someone looking for the content that exists at the target. Independent notability is not a requirement for redirects - indeed the opposite is often true. Thryduulf (talk) 10:28, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Aire Webster

This seems to refer to Kylie Jenner's child with Travis Scott, but the name is not mentioned at the target or anywhere on wikipedia. It should certainly not target this current target in its current state, but I am unsure what should be done with it. TartarTorte 16:24, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. Nobody of this name is mentioned anywhere on Wikipedia. They used to be mentioned at the target, but that mention was removed by Vegantics in September with this edit citing WP:NONAME. It's been over 2 months since that edit which afaict has not been challenged, so the lack of mention seems to have consensus. Thryduulf (talk) 10:36, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ínti González Cazzuchelli

This person is not mentioned at the target and I can find no information at all about this person online in my before. I think this should be deleted. TartarTorte 16:20, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Life Speaks to Me (lyric video)

Redundant redirect from an implausible search term. With extremely rare exceptions on the order of "Thriller", a music video would virtually never qualify for its own standalone article as a separate topic from the song that it's the music video for, and lyric videos (which absolutely anybody can make and post to YouTube at any time whether it's "official" or not) have an even weaker prospect of independent notability than narrative videos do -- but since Life Speaks to Me is already a redirect to the same place as it is, there's no compelling reason at all why the lyric video would need its own separate redirect distinct from the song's redirect. Bearcat (talk) 16:17, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. There is information about a lyric video for "Life Speaks to Me" at the target, even if not much, so someone using this plausible search term is going to find the information we have. I wouldn't recommend routinely creating redirects such as this, but I see no justification for deletion if someone does create them. Thryduulf (talk) 10:41, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

JUNIPER

I created this redirect targeting Junlper. Dicklyon retargeted it to the current target. I propose retargeting back to Junlper as that is the only entry at that dab stylized in all caps. Clyde [trout needed] 00:39, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ping Dicklyon since the ping didn't work right. Clyde [trout needed] 00:41, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retain – It makes more sense to target it to the disambig page based on the spelling (juniper) than on the capitalization that makes it look like the oddly styled junlper. Dicklyon (talk) 02:27, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per nom. I'll reproduce my comment at the AFD: "Please see WP:DIFFCAPS. From a quick glance, it seems like no other page at Juniper (disambiguation) uses an all-caps stylization that could be confused with JUN[L]PER. The closest are Juniper Networks, which uses an all-caps, san-serif stylization with a similar I/l but includes "Networks" prominently and the defunct Juniper Bank, which uses an all-caps stylization but in a serif font so the I is easily discernible. By contrast, the Twitter account prominently and consistently uses all-caps in its stylization to try and confuse people. The name is also apparently pronounced like "Juniper", so unless there's clear evidence of other Junipers using an all-caps stylization, there isn't really an issue with this that the current hatnote to the DAB isn't solving. -- Patar knight - chat/contributions 14:02, 17 October 2023 (UTC)" -- Patar knight - chat/contributions 02:50, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The trouble is that this allows the shitposter to shitify Wikipedia by converting an all-caps query to a spelling error. It's much more likely that a person entering "JUNIPER" as a search query just has their caps lock on than that they're looking for that obscure and barely notable shitposter Junlper. Dicklyon (talk) 03:19, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Without any usability testing data, this sounds like an uncommon hypothetical scenario, whereas confusion between l and I (indistinguishable in most default sans-serif system fonts) is a very real and prominent accessibility concern. Regardless of being obscure and barely notable, Junlper is currently an article on Wikipedia, and redirects should help readers who are looking for it. –RoxySaunders 🏳️‍⚧️ (💬 • 📝) 18:25, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per nom. Junlper is the only topic which is commonly all-capsed in sources. 162 etc. (talk) 03:57, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Junlper per above and add hatnote. Her Twitter username JUNlPER, under which she is notable, is a stylized form of JUNIPER and can easily be mistaken for it. Nothing else is known as JUNIPER, so WP:DIFFCAPS applies. –CopperyMarrow15 (talk | edits) Feel free to ping me! 22:36, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Junlper per above. A hatnote to the dab page won't hurt --Lenticel (talk) 00:18, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retain disambiguation: All-caps is a common stylization and was apparently also used intentionally by Juniper Networks and Juniper Bank, and can happen by caps-lock, and searches are typically not case sensitive. It's fine for JUNlPER to redirect to Junlper (since that's hard to produce by accident), but not JUNIPER, which is a different spelling and confusing to readers. — BarrelProof (talk) 16:48, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retain disambiguation Per BarrelProof. Cinderella157 (talk) 11:39, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Nofifed Talk:Junlper, as I should've done when I started this but didn't. Clyde [trout needed] 13:30, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • RETAIN targetting the disambiguaiton page -- 65.92.247.90 (talk) 03:53, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep (ie retain disambiguation). Notwithstanding stylisation, "JUNIPER" is not an all-caps version of the Junlper article title. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 19:42, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Jay 💬 09:17, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget. No other Juniper page has unusual capitalization and I doubt anyone would expect this redirect to lead elsewhere. Support hatnote on Junlper page Yoblyblob (talk) 13:10, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retain, mainly per the information found by BarrelProof. Furthermore, while the scenarios brought up by both sides of this debate are entirely plausible, there is something of precedent for redirects of all-caps versions of article titles. Precedent should never be the only reason for doing something on Wikipedia, but given the impossibility of determining which article a person typing "JUNIPER" is actually looking for, precedent could perhaps be used to tip the scales an extra nudge further in favour of retaining. Five Nights at Freddy's 7

There's no mention of this term in the target. I don't see any reliable sources that call this game by the name "Five Night's at Freddy's 7" either. Pizzaplayer219TalkContribs 15:30, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

User:Mr. Great Cow

Should this redirect be removed due to pointless crossing of namespace? I know we can't just delete user pages (though the user is blocked). TNstingray (talk) 15:28, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - nonsense, and the user is a checkuser-confirmed sockpuppet anyway. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 16:39, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just remove the redirect from the page or replace it with the relevant block template. There's no need to delete the whole user page. -- Tavix (talk) 17:43, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Convert to a soft redirect, adding the relevant block template above if desired. Hard redirects from base user pages to anything other than the user talk page or the user page of another account controlled by the same person are almost always confusing at best, however these problems are entirely resolved by changing from a hard to a soft redirect which also maintains the link desired by the user. Thryduulf (talk) 10:53, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Chanterelle (The Super Mario Bros. Movie)

A very very minor character from the movie. Not mentioned in the target. No reliable sources mention the character either. Pizzaplayer219TalkContribs 14:58, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Untitled Mario film

Previous RfDs for this redirect and similar redirects:

No longer untitled. It's been months since the movie came out and page views have died down. Pizzaplayer219TalkContribs 14:54, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Refine Untitled Mario film to The Super Mario Bros. Movie#Possible sequel, the "untitled" film is now the next one. Delete Draft:Untitled animated Mario film to make way for a draft on the sequel. -- Tavix (talk) 15:22, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong keep Untitled Mario film. This is consistently getting many page views (133 in the 30 days preceding the nomination), the only day this year when it wasn't used was 15 August and some days it is still getting into double figures. I don't know why this is still getting used so much but deletion would very clearly be harmful. No comment regarding the drafts at this point. Thryduulf (talk) 11:02, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My only thought is that there are readers who may be looking for information regarding the sequel. Never the less, the redirect appears ambiguous and doesn't seem to be helpful in an encyclopedic sense, IMO. Kcmastrpc (talk) 14:03, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm happy to retarget to the sequel. That would seem to be a reason for the redirect getting so many views. Thryduulf (talk) 17:37, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lolbit

Not mentioned in the target. No reliable sources mention the character either. Pizzaplayer219TalkContribs 14:06, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. Readers don't particularly care whether Lolbit is mentioned in reliable sources. Someone searching for this character will be led to the correct place. --(Roundish t) 01:44, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Whether it is mentioned in reliable sources is indeed not especially relevant, however it not being mentioned in the article (or anywhere else on Wikipedia) is - someone searching for this term who knows what it means will not find any information at the target, those who don't know what it means will just be confused. Gel guards

Delete. Non-notable alien; the original citation is archived here. Karl 334 (talk · contribs) redirected the page to a list in 2013, but the entry for the creature on the target page at that date was just "Main: The Three Doctors",[2] and he did not merge any info. If not deleted, the merge target should be The Three Doctors (Doctor Who), but that article now says merely "UNIT headquarters faces an attack by shapeless blob-like creatures", not naming them "Gel Guards" as in the BBC citation. – Fayenatic London 10:48, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Æon Flux(movie)

Bagua/Hsing-i

Delete: this redirect is not unambiguous. "Bagua" refers to baguazhang, and "Hsing-i" is a shortened form of the Wade-Giles transcription of xingyiquan. So redirecting anywhere doesn't make a lot of sense. SilverStar54 (talk) 05:11, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Morenoism

Neither this term nor the associated Morenoites is mentioned on the target article, Nahuel Moreno. I cannot find the terms used in any RSes, though non-RSes use them as pejorative terms for those who follow Moreno. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 01:28, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Significa liberdade: It may be true that no RS'es use the term (I haven't checked), but given that someone might search the term on Wikipedia (after having read some of the non-RS'es), I think it's a useful browsing aid.
FWIW, I did find some mentions by US Congress: https://www.google.com/search?tbm=bks&q=%22Morenoism%22 SocDoneLeft (talk) 02:48, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The biography seems to adequately address the political positions of Moreno, so the expected material from Morenoism is there to discover, by going to the linked organization with which he had leadership roles. And as you already pointed, the term "Morenoism" isn't likely to get an article, thus a comparison with Trumpism doesn't hold. As Wikipedia is not a dictionary, the definition of Morenoism doesn't need to be there, if the target contains what the topic is about instead of how the word is defined. If Wikipedia is a dictionary, then allied terms would need wordlists at the end of articles. wikt:en:-ism shows this is a related term of simple construction (just add a suffix), the Moreno school of thought is Morenoism. And Moreno's positions are in his biography. -- 65.92.247.90 (talk) 03:42, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I regret nothing

Not mentioned at target page, nor in references. I would typically have no idea why this redirect exists, but the edit summary states: "'I regret nothing' is what the Dude says before killing himself in EVERY game"

That being said, looking up the phrase on google gives many different results, not often associated with this franchise, so it may be WP:SURPRISEing to anyone that searches this. Utopes (talk / cont) 22:55, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I should clarify that there are dozens of videos of the Postal dude saying this phrase before killing himself, and that the phrase is even included in the Postal movie, I can’t link the videos but you can look them up on YouTube. Second of all, it is strongly associated with the series considering Postal 4’s title references the phrase more or less (and intentionally misspells it)-SignedInteger (talk) 02:47, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
