The Starfleet Recruitment building on M'talas Prime
Starfleet Recruitment was a Starfleet facility where individuals could apply to enlist in Starfleet, or be recruited into Starfleet Academy. This facility was located in District Seven on M'talas Prime. According to Raffaela Musiker, it was "a mid-level Starfleet recruitment bureau."
A red statue of Captain Rachel Garrett stood at the front of the building, and some of the locals referred to it as the "Red Lady."
In 2401, a terrorist plot against Starfleet Recruitment was uncovered by Starfleet Intelligence operative Musiker, who had learned that the facility was to be targeted with a quantum tunneling weapon that was developed at one of Daystrom's off-site stations.
Unable to hail the facility, she was too late to prevent the disaster, and as a result of the weapon's deployment, the entire building fell through a wormhole-like tunnel whose other end opened up high in the sky over the city, dropping the collapsed building onto the ground below. A news report later stated that there were 117 confirmed casualties from the attack. (PIC: "Disengage")
The location of Starfleet Recruitment was depicted using footage of downtown Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The building, created by CGI, replaced the famous soccer venue, Maracanã Stadium. [1] [2]
