Doctor Puri was the chief medical officer aboard the USS Enterprise during its maiden voyage in 2258.
Shortly after launching, the Enterprise became involved in a combat situation with the Romulan mining vessel Narada. During the attack, Puri was killed on deck six.
When Spock ordered Puri to report following the attack, Dr. Leonard McCoy notified the Vulcan of the doctor's demise. Spock then informed McCoy that he had just inherited Puri's duties as CMO, to which the doctor replied, "Yeah, tell me something I don't know." (Star Trek)
