A magnetosphere is the region around astronomical objects (such as planets and stars) in which the object's magnetic field affects other objects in its vicinity.
In 1979, the Pioneer 11 probe investigated the magnetosphere of Jupiter and discovered that Saturn had a complex magnetosphere buffeted by solar wind. (TNG: "Loud As A Whisper")
During the Europa Mission of the late 2020s, the Shango X-1 protected itself from the adverse effects of radiation from Jupiter's magnetosphere in Europa's orbit by remaining in orbit of the gas giant and making multiple flybys of Europa. During these flybys, the Shango would launch its lander and subsurface probe, which then explored the environment of Europa. (PIC: "Two of One")
The planetoid that Data (under the control of Lore) took the shuttlecraft El-Baz to in 2369 had a high amount of electromagnetic activity in the magnetosphere, making scans of the planet's surface impossible. (TNG: "Descent")
