Summary

English: This is the south entrance of the Chennakesava Temple in Belur. The entrance is marked by two levels of steps: the first leads to the jagati (elevated platform), and the second brings visitors to the mandapa (hall). The structure of the southern entrance resembles that of the main entrance, though the carvings are distinct. The lower sections of the door jambs showcase sculptures of Hanuman on the left and Garuda on the right. Only one jālandhara is present, located on the right side, illustrating the fierce tale of Narasimha, an avatar of Vishnu, as he slays Hiranyakashipu by tearing out his entrails with his bare claws. The left jālandhara is sealed off with stones. The doorway also features sculptures of Sala slaying the tiger, the Hoysala emblem.
